Brake problem

Hello Sky owners,

I am the owner of an 08 Solstice GXP but want to pass on information to the Sky owners that are experiencing the "no brakes" feeling that we GXP owners are having after start up.

I am in contact with another GXP owner who happens to have many years of experience in the auto industry. He also has contacts in other agencies.

In order to put some pressure on Saturn he suggests to file a complaint with the NHTSA. In order for them to look at the case there has to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 complaints.

If you are not satisfied with the engineering of the brakes please go online and file a complaint. http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/

I have posted a similar message on the Solstice forum. http://www.solsticegxpowners.com/

Thanks for letting me post and good luck with your Sky.

Rumor has it the the early models R/L 08's has the 07 brake system, then some penny pincher switched systems by removing an aux brake boost, now latest rumor is that they (factory) went back to original setup. If true that is good, the bad is, what happens with those that have the changed or modified system??. And 2--is it true that they went back to the original 07 setup for the brake boost system??

I have asked this question a few times and no one replied. My car that I picked up last weekend still had the startup brake warning sticker on it so either they didn't put the pump back in or the put the pump back in and left the warning label.

This is the first I've heard of brake warning sticker where is it located?

It's a REMOVABLE label\sticker stuck to the OUTSIDE of the glove compartment next to another removable label that warns about putting children in the front seat with the airbag on. If anyone is interested I'll see if I still have it, scan it in and post it.

Nope - was not on mine when I bought it.
And it would probably not mean anything to 95% of the people who did see it.

Wow, not on mine either and no one at the dealership told me about the "advanced" braking system.

"Advanced"...what a joke.

Only had mine for a month. Not on mine either. Dealer did not tell me squat.

The dealer didn't say anything to me either. I knew more about the car then he did. Maybe the label is new since Saturn is getting complaints about the brakes at startup?

There was no label on mine either, but I have a fairly early 08.

I found this sticker under my seat. They took it off and buried it. For those of us with this lousy braking system I sure hope they do right and add the auxilary system. This is ridiculous..... I'm warming it up and pumping the brakes every morning.

Cold start = no brakes

I bought my Sky turbo 4 weeks ago. Nearly took out the side mirror when the brakes didn't work the first morning. I told the dealer that it sure would be nice if someone were to warn new buyers. The dealer did not know about the warm-up rule until they called Saturn. They do now, and promised to warn buyers. I filed with Saturn and the NHTSA. Just got a phone call from Saturn Corp last night asking for more info. (I think we have their attention.) They sure have a heck of a liability exposure here! Keep the complaints coming.

I didn't get one of those nice stickers!

Even if I did, I could deal with "pedal pulses", but no brakes? That's a whole new ballgame!

I swear up and down my brakes don't pulse like it says in that sticker. My brakes just go to the floor.

Guy above got a call back from Saturn? Hmm, when I called and told them, the guy was like, "Gee, huh, ya don't say...", more or less didn't give a crap. Good to see that they are taking this a little more seriously than initially, like when I reported it to them.

Yup - no pulses for me, the brakes just go right to the floor & the car keeps moving until it is thrown into N & the emergency brake is pulled. (Which I was able to do pretty dang quick the 2nd time since I had already been scared by this garbage setup.)

Makes you scared to death to let a valet park the car. Which means I have to take my GTP at times I would rather have the Sky out.

I agree with that!!!! Took mine to the dealer tonight with a list of a few things I want them to do. I included the brake issue and asked them if they are aware of the problem, got a confused look back and then a "NOPE". Asked him if they wanted the URL to the SKYROADSTER forum web site, got the same look back. Asked them what kind of oil they were going to put in my SKY when they changed it..... they got that one right.

I'm starting to think we may have two different (but possibly related) problems.

I have the brake "problem", but I've never had to take the brake pedal to the floor. I have to push like hell, but I am able to bring the car to a stop. I do feel the modulations in the pedal.

If you take the pedal to the floor and don't have ANY braking, that is likely an indication that something else is wrong. Perhaps a failure of the hydraulic assist all together.
