Break-In

So I've never owned a new car before. (does that date me or what) But I was just curious about engine break-in. I have been taking it somewhat easy on my Sky. (No redlines, not really pushing the turbo hard) Is this standard procedure? I also was going to wait about 1500 miles or so before I took it up a canyon or on any steep hills? Is this normal? Or am I just paranoid?

Thanks!

I've bought several new vehicles over the last 10 years and was always told to drive at various speeds for the first 500 miles and not push the engine too hard. Modern cars are built to some pretty tight tolerances and you probably spent close to $30k (or more) for your Sky so I would probably err on the side of caution. I'm picking up my new toy on Saturday and will take easy for the first 500 miles. (Can't wait!)

I thought I read somewhere that the first 500 miles were the break in period.
Don't exceed 4000rpm and vary speed and rpms as much as possible during this time period
Also
Do your best to not slam on the breaks to let the pads and rotors contour to each other.

The second part was shot to hell for me as I had 3 people cut me of in the first 3 days of owning the sky.

With all the SUVs on the road, it seems like the sky is barely more visible than my motorcycle. Fortunately I have the motorcycle mentality and reflexes.

Owner's Manual.
Index: Break-in.
It's on pg 2-16 in mine, but they change the manuals, so check the index.

Thanks for the heads up....I've taken it up to 5500 RPM a few times (maybe 3) just during my test drive, and showing off... (I know...I know..) but for the most part been following that council.

Thanks!

Send a message via Yahoo to 08SkyLdr
The dealer told me 600 miles and to vary the speeds, so don't do 65+ for all 600 miles. Then I can drive it like I would normally. Haven't looked back, but many are still following.
