First oil change

They did the first oil change at 1300 miles or so(around 30 days after I got her). I didn't realize it was due, the dealership just went ahead and changed it (for free) when I brought her in for the clearbra installation and panel replacement. I'm staying with the regular oil that the dealership uses-not synthetic. The return (next service) sticker they put on my windshield says to come back in July, 3 mos/3000 miles later.

As long as they do it for free, but with new engines and the newer oil mixes, 10K is closer to the change period than 3K. Heck, on my diesel the change period is 3-7K depending on driving conditions. I would wait until the engine oil monitor or OnStar sends me the email before I change. At $70 a barrel, no need to waste it.

You should probably read up a bit more on motors or simply follow the car's manual for oil change intervals.

The Oil Life system isn't going to change the physics of a motor breaking in, and remove all the microscopic oil shavings a break-in creates.

Like I said above, I plan on a 25 mile change to get rid of all the shavings my filter cannot catch, and another change at 1000 miles, 3000, and 5K a switch to full true synthetic.

Darkkstar, are you doing the drive it like you stole it method for the first 25 miles? I have heard driving it really hard will help seat the valves even better than doing the slow and easy method, but like you said you then need to change your oil right away to get rid of the metal shavings.

I am assuming you are also saying screw it to not taking it over 70 too or revving past 4000RPM.
