center console ??

Hopefully someone can help. I need to know what is under my center console. ( without me having to take it off) I am sure someone has had to remove one for some reason. I want to place a drink holder there. I need a space 3 inches deep and approx 4 inches wide and 4 inches long. One of you "Guru's wanna help ? Hopefully a place just left of the handbreak.

Sorry, but since the Sky is rear wheel drive, that's the transmission tunnel. No real room under there for you to be cutting holes in it.

But c'mon...

All the time you hear people say, "I wish there was another cup holder in this car."

Nobody EVER says, "I wish there was an extra transmission."

I saw one on eBay, I think, that was 'a molded piece of plastic' that jammed into place between the tunnel and seat.

Looked useful, but was a bit steep. (for a piece of plastic).

Thanks for the cool pic of 'my Sky'. I've added it to my collection (renaming it from Solstice, of course).

If you do a search on the solstice forum you will find plentiful pictures of the makeup of what is underneath that plastic bit. Look for threads discussing windows switches and radio installs.

It comes off easy!

My adjustable security proximity sensor is located under the center console.

To remove it is very easy. First pull the brake handle up as far as you can.
Next, grab hold of the console on the driver's and passenger side and pull straight up. There are four or five push-in tabs that just pull out.
To replace, carefully position and push them back into place.

There is very limited space between as designed. I am surprised an after-market'er has not created a replacement snap in place new console with built-in cup holders. Snap-out old and snap-in new ...so easy and so needed.

Or how about a nice padded leather version? I'd pay for that.

OH wow!

I always knew it was something under there that had to do with the running of the car just not sure what... so just like the hump in the 'trunk' when asked I tell people, it's something that makes the car go need to know anymore? LOL That usually stops the questions! HEE HEE!

Hey thanks for sending that picture in.. I am sooo going to steal it now and send it to a few people!

P.S. While we are talking about consoles and cup holders! I really dislike the way the dual cup holder is right there, because if I have a nice frosty drinkie in it then it runs all down the console ugggg.

For quick reference. Here is a shot of the naked center console. As seen during my stereo install.

Looks like there would be space if that module on top of the tunnel could be located elsewhere.

Wow..Thanks for the pics of the center console. Thats helps a lot. And I think my project may actually work. If I can "getter done" I will take pics and let everyone know how it works. I plan to start this small project as soon as I return from a week long motorcycle trip to Reno Nv on the 27th of this month. As for now I think I will go ahead and get the parts I need from the BMW dealer. (yes BMW) LOL. Again thanks for the pics and advice
