Check Engine Light on

Light is not Flashing and car runs great. Any ideas? It has 37 K and ive had it 3 weeks. Im thinking my wife put cheap gas in it but would this have done it?

Welcome to the forum! Cheap gas shouldn't cause a problem, although contaminated might, but that's pretty unlikley. Did you try hitting the Onstar button to get a remote diagnostic?

Saturn update

catalytic converter went on it but it looks to have hit a bump, there was a crack. Saturn was great and it's under warranty so will have the part in a few days.

If my "check engine" light came on, I would first ask On-star, then I would take it in to the dealer and have it taken care of. Simple.

Some of the early build Sky's have had to replace the catalytic converter. I'm guessing that with 37k, yours is an early model. Mine did the same as yours. Light on, ran fine. Mine was under warranty. Your past the 36k warranty period and I don't think the converter is considered part of the drive train that would be covered under the 100k drive train warranty.

I just had to replace my gas cap today on my 2000 saturn to pass inspection for a ' service engine soon ' light on.
If the gas cap is loose, tighten it up and drive about 100 miles it should go out.

If it is the C converter I believe it falls under emission control warrenty.....which is for a longer time than your 3/36 given by the factory. I have had emission control work done on other vehicles that were covered after the 3/36 expired.

Thanks for getting back to us with the resolution. For folks trying to follow the thread, this post was just approved as the o/p is a brand new member, so wasn't visible until just now.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was really confused, I knew that post was not there when I posted mine.

Thanks Cerberus, for explaining that. I was wondering how I missed that post this morning. Also, thanks to swieck. I didn't realize there was a longer warranty on the emission control system.

First engine light incident, they had to replace the catalytic converter.

Second incident, they replaced the gas cap. Was told that it wasn't sealing properly.

The converter should be in on Thursday. Since they are having issue with this shouldnt they keep a few in stock? I love this car though, i have never gotten as many comments on "I love your car". Thank you everyone for your input.

Next going to replace the radio with an in dash nav/radio system. Any good ideas of one that have worked well with the sky?

You would think so. My dealer checked with the Pontiac dealer and they didn't have one in stock either.
