Convertible Top issue

Snow White has an appointment for July 7th to get her convertible top fixed. A rental car will be waiting for me. The rubber piece is getting worse. T.

My top keeps pinching on the drivers side... and I dont notice until after i secure it.. or try to on the inside... UGH... i use the passenger side cuz it is tooo hard to close it from the drivers side.... anyway.... maybe they can fix it too! SkyBaby

For me this started happening about 2 weeks after I got her. Vstar was helping me put the top up at a meet and was like "wow, that's new" when it got all pinched together. I have just been working with it that way. However, JustMike convinced me this is not normal and to have it fixed because it could possibly tear. I have an appointment for Monday. I'll let you know what they tell me.

Just got back from the dealership and it's all fixed. Apparently the "rails" have adjustments and mine were sitting too close together, thus the pinching. The guy spaced them slightly further apart and now no pinching! YEAH!!!

Glad to hear they fixed you convertible top. I hope they can do the same for me. I didn't know about the rails. Maybe they can do the same for me? T.

I wouldn't imagine yours would be the same problem because I think you'd be having it all along. Unless over time they shift but I think they'd separate not move closer.

Dam I had high hopes too. It's just started happening only a few weeks ago. Who knows? Snow White must be mad at me. She has lots of small issues with her. I am glad she is going to the doctors next week. I thinks she misses everyone. T.

I have the same problem with the pinching of the top on the driver side. I took it to the dealer in May and they told me there was no fix. I just want to make sure that your's was doing the same thing as in my pic.

If so, I will take it back to the dealer to have them see if the rails can be adjusted.

When I raise the top I now automatically sweep my fingers through the joint (BEFORE IT CLOSES!!!) ensuring the top cloth is free from of the joint. It adds perhaps one second to the time needed to raise the top and it is 100% effective.

That is exactly the same problem I was having. See post #36 - all fixed. It was happening on both sides, one more than the other. Mine didn't just happen after a year of use though it started happening about a week after I brought it home. The mechanic told me the rails that the canvas was running across were sitting too closely together and adjusted them so they now sit a little further apart.

Don't let them tell you its normal because at first they told me that. I explained how I had just been on a run with 35 other cans and no it's not. Then I showed them the problem and they said "Oh no, that's not normal."

You should definitely get it resolved because if not over time the canvass will tear.

The picture you posted is the excactly what mine does. It is not normal. I'll keep you posted.

Don't let them B.S. you! Thats not normal my top has never done that. Tell him to get off his lazy butt and fix the top.

ryanmd - I thought I should clarify my opinion a little. Yes for some people the pinching is normal and as Bogie says you can run your finger under the canvass. However, from the pictures yours appears to be as severe as mine was. Plus, mine was happening to both sides and running back and forth gets a little annoying, especially when it's starting to rain. In addition to the pinching, mine was really difficult to close. I would hear stories about people closing their tops with one hand. Me, I would wrestle with the top every time I had to close it. I would have to go from side to side about 3-4 times before it was close enough to get the latch to catch. I think this again was due to the rails being too close.

Now, I put the top up give it a slight shove on one side then go sit inside the other, grab the top, an additional shove and its in. So in addition to no pinching, it is now much easier to close.

I really think you should have someone look at it and don't take "It's normal" for an answer. I only took mine in due to prompting from someone else and I'm glad I did.
