I would just add that if you are going to use a socket to remove the filter cap, to use a six point socket. A 12 pointer will chew up the hex over time. I use a 1/2" drive 1 1/4" six point socket with a 3/8" reducer on a long extension and a long-handle ratchet. This ensures that you don't have too much torque at hand when it comes to installing the cap.

Well, changed my oil on Sunday, and it was a breeze. Thanks for the PDF. It's kinda interesting that the filter is on top. At least for me it is.

I'm right with you turbopro.... it's a little odd, but cool! My father brought me up to work on all my vehicles.... I'm sad to say that there is little I can do outside the dealership now that manufacturers have almost everything controlled by a computer.

Could you add the procedure for resetting oil life on the DIC?
Thanks

On the 07's , you turn the key to run and floor your gas peddle three times and it resets the oil life....Skip... or you can do it by the book in the manual....

From what I remember in the manual, go to the oil life display and press 'reset', get asked if you REALLY want to reset, then press 'reset'. -J

On the 2008 model you have to follow the procedure from the manual. there are only about half dozen steps to reset the DIC so it is pretty simple.

Don't know why they moved away from the turn key to run position and stomp on the gas pedal 3 times.

These instructions refer to "Lifting and jacking the vehicle". Any chance you could get that for the forum? Since we don't have a spare tire, I guess GM didn't think it was necessary to include that information in the owners manual. TIA.

Ramps

I haven't tried them yet but I have ramps I use to change oil on my Avalanche, and Lumina LTZ. It's not time to change oil yet but has anyone driven their Sky onto ramps or does it sit too low? I will try it and see but just curious.

Can one of you helpful guys tell me if the 2008 Red Line uses the same oil filter as the 2007? I am assuming it does, just wanted to confirm.

Also, can somebody list the steps to reset the Oil Life display?

Doing my first oil change today!

Thanks!

I recall resetting the oil life by pressing the info buton and the reset button at the same time with the oil remaining life window showing. I then released the two buttons and presses the + cruise buton to reset it. I may have had to acknowledge by again pressing the + curise button. Hope this helps

You do not have to change synthetic every 3000 miles. That's one of the beauties of synthetic oil. You should be able to get at least 7000 miles out of an oil change and some are going 10,000 miles between oil changes with synthetic. Your oil life indicator on the DIC is a good way to approximate the oil life. You should also refer to the owners manual which I don't have handy but I do recal seeing instructions in there regarding oil life. Hope this helps.

I 'm old school. I change my oil every 3500 miles regardless of what my DIC tells me. This usually falls into the 67% life left range...

Anyone interested in Mobil One with 67% life left? I'll sell it cheap!! I'll even throw in the oil filter. Free shipping. Only catch is that you must post a youtube video of you changing your oil and pouring my used oil. ...

All R/L's come from the factory with synthetic oil. The 2.4 comes with standard oil. But you can change it to synthetic.
