driver seat movement????? need help

My wifes drivers seat moves up and down. When your driving it actually moves up and down when going over bumps etc. We took it to Saturn and they said that all of the cars did it, and that there was nothing they could do.
Has anyone ever run across this? They stated they tried 3 different seats and they all did it.
I dont know about anyone else, but isnt this unsafe? Shouldnt the seat be rigid in its mount?

There are a few issues with this...

I had the same problem, and they fixed it by replacing the seat frame. Also, the early 2008 Skys had a recall for seat bolts that did not meet specifications.

Try this, simply try (while the car is parked) shaking the driver's seat back and forth, and compare how much it travels to that of the passenger seat.

They should both move the same amount (very little). In my case, the driver's seat was significantly looser. Now that they replaced the seat frame, both seats are very solid.

There is a sevice bulletin for the seat. Search the boards (or maybe someone will post it) and see if it applies to your situation.

The seat should NOT be doing this - call Saturn (get names) and then go back to the dealer.

I got a notice a month or 2 ago it has been recalled and I need to bring it to the dealer. I talked to my dealer last week and they had no idea there was a recall for this. It's only on 2008 models here is the information. I believe from reading forum posts (going by memory) this was relarted to people complaining their seat is loose. My seat does not move BTW

If you have a new car your On-Star monthly report page should indicate on the right hand side there is a recall for the seats. The link to the recall notice doesn't work for me.

NHTSA Campaign Number: 07V454000
Defect Summary: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 207, "SEATING SYSTEMS." AND STANDARD NO. 210, "SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY ANCHORAGES." THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE ONE TO FOUR INBOARD SEAT STUD FASTENERS THAT DO NOT MEET SPECIFICATION FOR STRENGTH.
Consequence Summary: IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE SEAT AND SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY MAY NOT RESTRAIN THE OCCUPANT AS INTENDED AND COULD RESULT IN INJURY TO THE OCCUPANT.
Corrective Summary: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE INBOARD SEAT STUDS AND, IF NECESSARY, REMOVE THE STUD AND INSTALL A BOLT FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT OCTOBER 10, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PONTIAC AT 1-800-620-7668 AND SATURN AT 1-800-972-8876.

There is a recall on them or service thing just make them look it up.

My driver's side seat did exactly what you are talking about. I brought it in a few times for other stuff and everytime they tightened everything. Then the recall or service thing came out and fixed it according to that and now it's not as bad like a roller coaster like I am about to fly out of the seat.

BY the way mine is a 2007 not sure your year but don't let them give you crap if it is a 07 and they say the recall is only on 08. SOMETHING is wrong with your car MAKE THEM FIX IT bottom line!

My seat moves like this too. When I brought it in, they looked at it and told me that "it must be because you dont weigh enough to keep it down".

I actually noticed a similar issue when going over fairly sizeable bumps. I was actually not sure if the entire seat was moving up or just me (the driver) but now that I see this posting I will check for play in my seat.
