Drivers' seat a little shaky

My last problem...when I'm driving and hit a bump in the road it feels like the seat comes off the hinge momentarily...almost like it either isn't bolted down in the back, or the hinge where the seats tilts is loose or something. Has anyone else experienced this? I took it into the dealership and they claimed they couldn't find a problem. I've owned alot of cars and have never felt anything like this before.

No never heard of this problem yet. I would suggest riding another one and see if you feel the same thing.

I know that there is a Technical Service Bulletin on this for 2008's (see below) -but you might want to check with Saturn since yours is a 2007:

Subject:Bulletin GMP07-169 - 07263 Seat Stud Strength - Inspect Seat Studs; Models 2008 Pontiac Solstice and 2008 Saturn SkyMessage #:VSU20071570

* DESCRIPTION:
F/CMVSS NONCOMPLIANCE RECALL #07263
DATED: SEPTEMBER 24, 2007

CONDITION
General Motors has decided that certain 2008 model year Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky vehicles fail to conform to Federal/Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 207 and 210 for seating systems and seat belt assembly anchorages. These vehicles may have one or more inboard seat stud fasteners that do not meet GM's specification for strength. In the event of a crash, the seat and seat belt assembly may not restrain the occupant as intended and could result in injury to the occupant.

CORRECTION
Dealers/retailers are to inspect the inboard seat studs, and if necessary, remove the stud and install a bolt.
o Refer to F/CMVSS Non-Compliance Bulletin #07263 for the service procedure and other detailed information.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
Owner mailing is scheduled to begin OCTOBER 10, 2007.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
GM AND SATURN-CANADA ONLY: Parts required to complete this recall are to be obtained from General Motors Service and Parts Operations (GMSPO). Please refer to your "involved vehicles listing" before ordering parts. Normal orders should be placed on a DRO = Daily Replenishment Order. In an emergency situation should parts be ordered on a CSO = Customer Special Order.

SATURN-US ONLY: Saturn will not be doing a pre-shipment of parts for this bulletin. Please place orders for the required parts as necessary.

The Parts list follows:

Part Number
Description
Quantity/Vehicle
11516328*
Bolt Asm
1-4, If Needed
11562303
Washer
(Front bolts will require 1 washer; rear bolts will require 1 or 2 washers)
As Needed

*Important: It is estimated that only 5% or less of the involved vehicles will require the installation of the bolt following the inspection procedure. Please order parts accordingly.

I test drove an 08 Solstice and it had this problem. At the time, they didn't know anything about how to fix it. That was about a month ago. Glad to hear there is a bulletin on it now.

My '08 had this problem, and that was before the recall was announced. I showed it to the dealer by simply pushing back and forth on the driver's seat (while the car was just sitting there).

The driver's seat was noticibly shaky when compared with doing the same test on the passenger seat.

They replaced the seat frame (probably because they didn't yet know about the bolt issue), and the seat has been fine ever since.

Give that test a try yourself and see if you notice a difference between the two seats.

Hey ToplessCutie,

Have a look at this thread: My Driver's Seat Is Loose? .

Also, it doesn't seem like the bulletin and the coming-off-the-hinge-thing are the same. The bulletin implies that the fastener might break during a collision, not that it is just loose all the time.

My SKY does the same thing as yours and as the people in the above thread. I haven't yet taken my car in to get it fixed, but I plan to have a printout of that thread to let them know what I am talking about (since I'm not convinced it is the same thing as the bulletin).

Good luck!
