ECM Problems

I've had my Sky for 1 year now and took it in in Nov. 07 because the ECM (Electronic Control Module) had to be replaced. 2 days ago the engine light came on again and I took it back to the dealership and the ECM has to be replaced again. Has anybody else had a problem of this nature? It's starting to frustrate me at this point. Two times in one year is just unbelievable to me!!

Without knowing the full statistics of all SKY owners, it's hard to compute a probability of a double failure on the same component. Twice is possible. However, when this happens, I sometimes wonder if the cause is elsewhere and they are chasing symptoms.

If it happens a third time, they need to start looking for cause (e.g., voltage spikes, perhaps) and not just replacing failed parts.

Welcome to the forum.

They replaced the ECM because you had a CEL?

Which engine light? What prompted them to say the ECM was bad? Did they bother to try and clear the code?

Sounds to me like perhaps they may not have known what they were doing .... just a guess on my part, but haven't heard of any Sky/Sols having to have this done ..................

Thank you for your reply. I got it replaced yesterday and of course they couldn't give me any reasons on why it's failing. I will just have to see if it happens again!

They do not know what is causing this to happen. Each time they just hooked it up to the computer and it gives them the same code. I believe they tried to clear it but ended up having to replace it both times! I will just have to wait to see if it happens again! For their sake...let's hope not!! I will not be a happy camper!

It sounds like you may have run into what I have already experienced, if so--two times is nothing! As soon as I have more time, I will get back and give you what info I have.

My Sky had alot of electrical issues and had that changed and more.... it is in my threads about Jade and Electrical Issues. Just search SkyBaby threads. Turned out, some of them items were bad, but the fuse thingy was really bad. Jade was in for service 9 times and the last time was over 5 weeks.... I took her to a new tech and they have seemed to fix it so far. Only slight little issues... but she is running good . SkyBaby

I've had some electrical problems as well. My ECM and starter had to be replaced and so was the alternator a few times. The car died on me twice while driving. But now she's running ok.
