Car Is Done!

First of all, thank you to everyone that was kind enough to not mention this on the threads until I had a chance to get home from the event this weekend in San Diego.

To keep it short and sweet, my baby got to see the but of a Hyundai Sonata a little to close this weekend during one of our runs through La Jolla. I won't go into details but here are a couple of pix for those of you that like to see damage since you're morbid (like meee!). BTW, this is @ about 5-10 mph.

I was a little down when it happened and was strongly considering going home and feeling sorry for myself but the group was extremely positive and helped me make the decision to enjoy the rest of my weekend. Looking over the car (thanks again Tony) there doesn't seem to be any issues under the hood, just a bent horn bracket and my CAI getting pushed to the side. As for cosmetic, new hood, new bumper... thats about it. The hood pushed back slightly into the A-pillars and curved up like a champ (dog eared look) perfectly symmetrically with no apparent damage to the a pillars. Fenders seem fine, doors fine as well.

Hood Mod?

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the pics and I honestly thought the Sky would hold up better than that (especially going so slow - 5 to 10 mph).

So, have you decided on whether to upgrade the hood? Sorry but I had to ask, since you mentioned it in San Diego ...... heck, I would.

The important thing is, no one got hurt.

Take care!

Sincerely,

Steve

Collision Center Buddies!

I was so sorry to hear your crashed your baby! Maybe, if you take yours into the collision center, yours will be with mine!

I do have a question for you though. Did your airbags deploy? When I hit, it wasn't head on, and everyone told me they only deploy with a headbutt, but yours definitely looks like a full face headbutt.

Yours will probably be fixed by the time I'm back from vacation, but if there are any runs in September and you don't have your car by then, you can be my co-pilot. They will call us Crash and Crashette!
I LOVE MY SKY!!!!

How dare that Sonata get in the way of a SKY.....the nerve of some people!

Sorry to see your trouble. Make a positive out of is and do a little custom paint work while it is in the shop. Stripes, flames, some type of accents!

What sad, sad pictures! I would have been traumatized! I'm glad to hear you at least got to enjoy the rest of the weekend and didn't let this ruin it for you.

You don't need a new hood or bumper. Your bumper once removed will pop back into shape you will need to paint it again. You will either need to replace the bent brackets or bend them back which is easy to do with a hammer and a flat surface. The hood just needs minor body work and a repaint. Then if you had a front grill section of course that needs to be replaced.

Over all a good body shop should be able to get you out for less than a 1K.

Hope you're up and running again soon. Hate that it happened to you. Just get it fixed and throw some pretty paint on it to make it really stand out.

The CAR held up well, just the cosmetics got smooshed as far as I can tell. I am for sure going to go w/ the RK Sport hood, just need to decide on the carbon fiber inlaid one or the solid yellow paint.

Airbags didn't deploy, I was going slow enough to avoid that, thank god. Tony was calling me crash in San Diego... hmmm time to update my avatar for the time being!

As for custom work other than the hood, I really would like to throw something custom on it paint wise, just need Ideas!!!

I was upset for all of 10 minutes until I got back into the car actually. Regardless of how bad of a day I am having, the Sky ALWAYS puts a smile on my face, really!

I really need to find a GREAT body shop out here in SoCal, so if anyone knows of one that they STRONGLY recommend it would be appreciated.

I feel bad anytime I see one of these threads as we are all family here, just sucks to be the topic of this one! Embarrassment mainly.
