fan on with engine off?

Should my electric fan be running for several minutes after I turn off the engine??

The fan will run if the temp is high. I think it kicks in at 215 or 220. It is normal to run this hot sometimes if you're running in hot weather or have been running the vehicle hard, or if you are sitting idling (allow heat to build up).

However, it's always a good idea to monitor the temp in these conditions. Just because it can be normal for the fan to run in these circumstances does not mean your circumstance is normal. Check your front for paper/leaves/plastic or other possible obstructions, especially if you run hot when moving.

Actually this reminds me that about 2 weeks ago (very hot day) I went back out to my car about 20 mins later and my fan was running. started the car and turned it off and the fan stayed off, just thought it was odd.

i know it's not a GM vehicle, but i've seen a ford pickup turn the fan on by itself on a really hot day when it's been sitting in the sun. hadn't ben driven for a few days, but i guess it got hot enough for the fan to kick in.

cars that are really bad about the fan staying on are Honda's. My buddy has one and that thing stays on forever after he's been driving it. as i understand all honda's have a habit of the fan staying on long after the car is off
