Is it flashing on and off or just lit up?

it flashed ten times or so then shut off, not fast just once every half second, like it was a temporary problem and fixed itself or the problem just went away. btw the car ran perfect when it was flashing, no stuttering or shaking or anything. ive been told that almost all new cars, nearly every make and model, will flash the engine light when it misfires.

I have never heard of that, but it could be.....

Does it happen often or just once and never since?

well what happened was i put some dejon ic piping on my car then took it for a test drive to make sure it didnt leak under high boost. everything was fine, no leaks. then i tested it again but i power shifted this time. ive never had a problem with power shifting and i only do it when im full out racing, like at the track. well i power shifted and my engine light came on flashing then went off after a few seconds. i did it once more, power shifted, last night and it did it again and the engine light stayed on. so im thinking of NOT power shifting anymore seeing as how my car doesnt like that lol. i talked to one guy who used to have a turboed civic and he had the same problem when he would race and he says that the engine just doesnt know what to do with extra boost when its power shifted. it doesnt do it if i run it and shift normally so im just not going to power shift anymore, its prolly not good for the engine anyway. im gonna run it a few times through all the gears just to make sure but im almost 100% positive it was just the way i was shifting.

i was told that when the engine light flashes its due to the engine misfiring, and a cause of this is due to trash getting in the engine. my buddy has a tacoma xrunner and after we put his cai on he had this same problem only his truck started shaking and acting crazy with the engine light flashing, mine never acted up, and after he stopped and turned off the truck he restarted it and everything ran fine. i just put the ic piping on so its a possibility that something could have got into the piping and when i power shift it sucks it up. just a thought. looking forward to more input, as for now i think im fine.

|V3nom|,

Here is what Steve had to say about your check engine light:

"There are a couple reasons it could have done it. First off, a flashing check engine light is not good. It is the sign that something immediately needs to be stopped. Yes, his power shifting COULD have been the culprit. One reason could have been the engine spinning to too high of an RPM. That has been known to trigger dash lights in ecotecs. Another could be a boost sensor not getting properly coorelated info, like overboosting beyond the sensors calibration (though this usually throws the car immediately into Engine Reduced Power mode)."

Hope this helps,

Martin

no i havent had ANY problem like what you had, anytime my engine light came one my car never acted funny or clanked or clunked or anything. my exhaust doesnt blow out black smoke on a large scale like yours does, just the normal carbon build up that every vehicle makes. i think you had a defective engine, one of those rare occurrences.

don't power-shift while the car is still cool... even if temps have already hit 190+... learned that the hard way. specially at the track... don't let your car cool down too much. it'll affect your times when u get reduced engine power towards the middle of the 1/4 mile believe me its NOT COOL LOL
