Free Mod Increases Performance 8% Instantly!

I was doing some SKY "engineering" the other day and was working acceleration numbers for the SKY torque, tires, and gearing. Thanks to Newton, we have a nifty little equation that helps us related force, mass, and acceleration:

F=ma

solving for accleration we have:

a = F/m

Acceleration can be improved in two ways. One is to increase the Force, which bascially wraps back to horsepower, torque, and gearing. The second way is to reduce mass. I started to look at the latter....and then I started to look at ME. I weigh about 240 lbs. The SKY, a modest 2990 lbs. I decided to determine what percentage of ME is "m", and since the relationship between "m" and "a" is a linear one, it would tell me how much of "a" is affected by ME.

240/2990 = 8%

That is somewhat dissapointing. Almost one tenth of SKY's power is devoted to moving ME.

And then it hit me. I can get an instant 8% increase in performance by simply jumping out of the car.

Edit: Upon further reflection, I believe the proper calcuation is 240/ (2990 + 240) = 7.4%

Test your hypothesis and let us know how it comes out for both you and the car.

Taking a passenger (~165#) down the 1/8 rutinely cost me over .1 sec. -J

Each passenger in a car is worth 2% more in gasoline

Accelleration = Final Velocity -(minus) Initial Velocity

True and hysterically funny. I'm looking forward to the picture of both you and car after you test the hypothesis.

A married engineer!...but i swear, I'm no engineer. Just remembering some formulas in physics...I don't know how I ever got passed that class.

Damn straight. There is an evolutionary reason the engineer gene lay dormant for one or more generations.

That means if you loose 40 lbs you will gain about 1.5 - 2% more horse power. Better than a Cold Air Intake.

So at 190 I would gain 6.4% Good thing I purchased the CAI instead. So If you have a CAI and push a 190lb passanger out the door would you say I had a 12.8% gain

7 lbs

When racing motorcycles ........ the saying around the pits was 7lbs equals 1hp

Now if I can just lose 280lbs ... that would get me to my 300hp mark Wait, then I would weigh like a negative 80lbs

helium?

So if you filled the trunk with helium... or that would only affect the weight not the mass - and might reduce the traction available.

There is a reason why true racing cars have no carpet - no radio - and use titanium and carbon fiber etc - to reduce weight.
