Check the voltage output of your alternator.
Had my alternator replaced last week. It was putting out too much voltage causing some weird issues with lights and such. I didn't even put the two together until I filled up today. I had the same problem with the gas gauge wandering all over the place. But since I had the alternator replaced it doesn't do it any more, wonder that is. It makes sense if the BCM is reading voltages to determine what's going on with the car. If the BCM can't reconcile the voltage readings it gets from the fuel sending unit and the other sensors. Then the gauge would wonder thinking it was half a tank one minute then empty the next. All the BCM does is convert voltage readings from the sensors to ones and zeros so the computer software can make changes in the operation of the car. Not saying this is what's wrong with your's. But it's worth checking out.
