How did you paint your rusting wheel "hubs"?

Every SKY & Solstice I've seen from date of delivery has the same RUST RING where the wheels attach.

I've been told a few of you have taken your wheel/tires off, sanded & painted the rust areas.

Any step by step procedures out there? Type of sanding, paint, precautions, is your fix job holding up under the heat from the brakes and wheels?

I'm going to make it a summer project. Hate having a beautiful car with 4 rust rings!

One good thing about the Foose heels is they cover the mounting hub completely.

Well, I painted my hubs and the edges of the brake discs the same time I painted my brake calipers.

I removed the wheels and detached the calipers to make it easier to paint the calipers. I decided that since I had the brake discs exposed, that I would go ahead and paint those too.

I used chrome colored brake caliper paint in a spray can. Cleaned everything first with brake caliper cleaner, masked off the contact areas of the discs, hubs and the wheel lugs, then gave it several light coats of the caliper paint.

These areas are actually holding up better than the painted calipers, which currently need a little touch up.

Here is a picture of the work in progress.

I used Eastwoods High Temp Header coating which I've used on a lot of items in the past with great results. Can be brushed on, is very thin but has great pigment for good color coverage. This also means you can re-apply at anytime without worry of build up. (You want your wheels to seat well against the hubs) Sorry, this is the best image I have.

Yes, the snaps are for a bra -I only use it occasionally for long road trips. No panties for my car though.
