Here is a link for a guy who dynoed it on his truck. He gained a few ponies.....but he compared his "old" plugs with "new" pulstars.... either way, not sure if its worth $25 /plug.

Split fire
Years ago - I tried split fire plugs in two different cars
SplitFire Performance Automotive Products one was a 1986 Acura Legend - and they worked quite well - never had a dyno test or anything like that. the other was a 1988 Pontiac Fiero - and I had to remove them almost immediately as they caused the engine to not run properly - put the standard plugs back in and it was fine. the Puslstar web site includes this warning: CAUTION: Pulstar model recommendations are for stock, unmodified engines. If you have added an aftermarket turbocharger, supercharger, nitrous or any other product that increases displacement or compression to your engine you will require a colder heat range pulse plug in order to avoid possible damage to your engine. For these applications please see our other great product at DirectHits or call us at 888-800-6700. their website also includes a chart with horsepower and fuel economy gains - but be sure to read the part where it mentions that the numbers are percentage - so where it says 4 that is 4% increase - if you get 30 mpg normally a 4% increase is only 1.2 mpg - which is okay if it is real - but in my experience my mpg varies by more than that from tank to tank just depending on where I drive (city vs highway) so how would know if you were actually getting any benefit? |

I tried the Pulstar EF-1's on my 07 redline...it has the BSR tune, everything else is stock. The car literally ate the plugs in 2 days worth (about 100miles) of driving. The electrode is completely burned off, I'll try to get some pics later tonight. Had the gap set to the .025" recommended gap. Installed using the GM instructions, with proper torque settings and everything. But alas the $100 plugs became redline food, so it's back to the stock plugs and the occaisional spark blow-out at higher boost.
The key to this experiment is...when spending $100 on otherwise disposable parts read the handy little cautions manufacturers provide on their pages: CAUTION: Pulstar™ model recommendations are for stock, unmodified engines. If you have added an aftermarket turbocharger, supercharger, nitrous or any other product that increases displacement or compression to your engine you will require a colder heat range pulse plug in order to avoid possible damage to your engine. Hope everyone has better luck than I did... |

They probably won't have better luck. But consider yourself lucky in that you didn't fry your ignition module. The method they use to increase the plug energy is about the same as opening up your plugs to around .080. And remember that if the plugs are firing the mixture, adding more volts or amps does not make it burn fuel any more than it is.
