I bought & am installing the "Pulstar" Pulse Spark Plugs!

I have read both the "skyroadster & Pontiac Solstice Forum's" .. in addition to Google threads on this "Pulstar" pulse spark plug. ( www.pulstarplug.com )

... the tug of war goes back and forth on facts and theory if they will actually improve performance ... with most folks sitting on the bench waiting for someone else to try them.
Well, I guess I am that 'someone else'.

Claims are; cleaner complete burn (greener exhaust), more torque, more horsepower, better fuel economy.

I realize the best way to test it would to do a pre-dyno and a after-dyno test. However, since I do not having easy access to dyno testing ... I will conduct a mpg comparison and a seat of the pants 0 - 60mph rip to satisfy myself. After all ... that is really the only soul I need to please.

I have an appointment on Monday for the Saturn dealer to install them.
They are charging me $145 to put them in!

I said it seems rather steep and the service manager said "it is not a simple job and that is the stated amount".

Question: is it that difficult a job requiring that much time ... is that price correct?

So you're going to DE for Mexican tomorrow?

That price seems pretty high to me to me too, but I have no idea how involved the process is. A good way to confirm may be calling another dealer under different ownership and asking them for a quote. Good luck with the plugs (and the piggy bowl)!

The price for the plugs is about 25.00 each when I looked up a 2007 redline so if they are only charging you 45.00 for labor and 100.00 for parts that does not sound like such a bad deal but if that is all labor it seems quite high in my opinion for a plug change. Just my 2 cents worth.

I would check and make sure they didn't quote you with plugs (that you don't want) included.

Riiiiiiight, lets check the service manual...

1. remove plastic cover
2. disconnect electrical connectors
3. remove ignition coil bolts
4. remove coils
5. remove spark plugs using 5/8" spark plug socket
6. install spark plugs(0.045" gap), tighten to 15 ft/lbs torque
7. install ignition coils, tighten bolts to 89 inch/lbs torque
8. install plastic cover

Cancel the appointment and do it your self, shouldnt take more then 10 minutes.

Send a message via AIM to GhostRL
It shouldnt take you more then 5-10 minutes for all four. If you pay $145 for that, then send me some seeds from your money tree.

Will those work with the Direct injection????????

You are a brave man Bob, but I would reconsider having the dealer install them, then you will be on record as "That is what screwed up the car, every time you have an issue".

Also those burn hot and the newer Redline plugs, if I am not mistaken, burn cooler.

Do yourself a favor and call Danbury on Monday and ask for their head SKY technician, Bob and Cathy say he is a "The SKY MAN".

"xmicro_Redline" ... 'Quote': Do yourself a favor and call Danbury on Monday and ask for their head SKY technician, Bob and Cathy say he is a "The SKY MAN".
================================================== ==

Paul, email his number. If I recall correctly, the new RedLine spark plugs they installed in my car were designed to burn 'hotter'.

I did phone "Pulstar" and spoke to a techy there, he impressed me enough with answers that I did further research. It seems most everyone wants to wait for someone else to go first.

I have a Pontiac dealer local and will phone them Monday morning and ask for just a labor price.

My only concern would be if ya don't have a "good torque wrench", without that, I would also look for a pro that knows kappas, IMHO.. Good luck "with your experiment"...

I don't care how you get it done, sorry I just want to hear about the results. I have been very curious about these "magic" plugs. I believe there are a lot of innovations we never see because the huge companies buy up the patent's. I hope these work. The theory is sound enough.

Yea, I plan to report what my thoughts are on the mpg and 'performance'. I would prefer to dyno it before and after ... but I am not about to toss more money into this fact finding project.
After Christmas I will be driving to Az ... that will be a fair mpg test. Also, when I get onto roads that are not snow covered and/or icy ... I will be better able to check out accelation!

Worst case, I pay to have them uninstalled.

Update:

The local Pontiac dealer was going to install them for half what my Saturn dealer was going to charge me.

But ... isn't there always a but .... the dealer pulled one of my spark plugs and came out to the waiting room to show me I received the wrong size plugs from "Pulstar". So I phoned and they were very apologetic and were going to send out another set. But I said on my drive to Sun City, Az I would just swing by Albuquerque, NM to their business and they can install them. They said perfect. I leave in about a week anyway, so I will report to you all as facts develop.

And 'YES'.... I will keep an eye open for that guys stolen 1933 Ford Phaeton or a 24' black trailer with his logo's on it!

This data will be very valuable for all of us Sky/Solstice owners. Thank you for ponying up your car and $$ to conduct this experiment. Look forward to seeing the results of the dyno. Thanks again.

Someone posted a test on a Corvette on the Solstice forum, seems they think it won't work as well on a FI (forced induction) car. I am glad you are taking it to the manf. I think we may need to drop a heat range, an maybe need some adjustment in the gap. They were seeing detonation. I hope they can check some of this stuff after they install them. They did work on the Vette, the guy with the test car kept them in.

it takes 15 min to change plugs...145 is way over the top.....and IF THEY ARE a replacement for the stock redline plug the heat range should be correct I have NGK Irids and they work very well.....seal9
