Key problems

I am having problems this morning, went out to start up my 2008 Redline and have tried both keys and neither will turn or do anything. Anyone else had this problem? I am a newbie and would appreciate any help.

If the key will not turn it may be held out by the steering wheel.

Put the key in the ignition, turn the steering wheel at the same time as you turn the key. Try turning the steering wheel both ways as you try to turn the key.

That has happened to me on several occasions but not on the Sky (yet). Do what ceeker says above. It is the steering wheels ignition locking mechanism. Sometimes once in a blue moon, that can happen with any car. It a matter of pressure being applied by the mechanism and it will not let you turn the key. Turning the wheel in one direction or the other with a little pressure if needed usually releases the pressure on the ignition key thereby letting turn the key.. Remember the wheel is also locked, its basically the same mechanisn locking both the wheel & key ignition..

Yeah, this is one of those things that can drive you crazy. One more little accommodation. Almost happened to me once...had to move the steering wheels and jiggle and it worked. I can only figure the more it's turned the harder it gets until.

As a preventive measure, when you park the car try to ensure the steering column/wheels are centered...or close thereto and there is no torque pressure on the column.

Does the key turn?

The original post only said that the car would not start - did not say that the key would not turn. I am not saying that is a bad guess based on the info provided. Just that "I tried both keys and the car won't do anything" is pretty thin in terms of providing a diagnosis.

edit - actually the original post does say that it will not turn - but still - anytime you are trying to diagnose a problem remotely the more info available the more likely the diagnosis is to be useful.

Were your keys next to a big magnet or close to a demagnetizer?? If so that can screw with the security chip inside...I have had several keys and credit cards jacked up because of that... Just a thought... MAX
