My Sky Died Again!! :(

I'm sure several of you remember this thread from a few weeks ago:

My Sky Died Today :(

The exact same thing happened again on Christmas Day of all days!! I was thankfully right around the corner from my cousin's house going to a Christmas get-together when it started puttering and I got the same warnings as last time....Service ESC, Engine Power Reduced, and Traction something. The car was barely going and the engine was revving off and on but I made it to her driveway.

So...the dealer will be getting a call in the morning to go get her! I have just about had it!!! What does it take for a car to be considered a lemon?? As much as I love the car I am sick of this. It seems like I make a trip to the dealer every month for something!

I tried not to let this ruin my Christmas day but I'm still down in the dumps.

Going back thru your other thread it was the alternator. I got a gut feeling it was something else all along. The alternator would throw idiot lights saying something was wrong. Keep us up to date and I hope it is something that does not take three weeks to fix...Skip...

Noooooo!! That is terrible!

Mine was a Throttle Body issue on my base Sky. Back in the summer I was taking off from a stoplight. As I up shifting to 3rd the engine raced, a loud KaBoom, and it acted as if I was really in neutral. I coasted to the nearest turnoff with warning messages going off on the DIC, but did not read since the other traffic was about to hit me! In the parking lot I tried to move the car and it had little to no power. Had it towed to dealer and of all things they replaced the entire Throttle Body. Hmmm...that was a new one on me. No problem since.

Sad, what luck. I wonder if the replacement part from last time took a crap. I bet most of the time it is NOT a new part but a rebuilt.. I can tell you one thing, I wouldn't tolerate a visit every month for "mechanical or a running issue' for long, thats for sure.. The car has to be reliable, especially since I bought my Sky for my wife, thank God, knock on wood, so far I have been blessed with a good, 2.4L... Hopefully our good fortune will continue into the new year... I'll be looking into this thread to see what the dealer finds this time..out of curiosity..

Alternator maxium is whatever it can crank out. The voltage regulater is supposed to be set at 14 volts. All this is inside the alternator. It sounds like they went down to Autowise and bought an off the shelf rebuilt one....Skip...

I called first thing this morning and had it towed to the dealer. This time I wasn't there to watch them load it. After work, I went to the dealer to pick up my loaner and talk to the service guys. All they know is it's a voltage issue. They were on the computer researching and said they were getting ready to call GM's tech support.

I'll keep yall updated.....

Another Update

Service adviser called today and told me that they are going to go through and test every electrical wire. He also said the alternator is fried and will have to be replaced again! So this will probably take them a while!

As a reminder to everyone on what happened the FIRST time:
Quote:
They called me this morning and are still waiting on a 3rd alternator to be shipped. The first one was messed up and the second one was damaged in shipping (or so they say).
1. Died (Original)
2. Defective.
3. Damaged* in Shipping.
4. Fried.
5. To be installed.

Ode to the alternating alternators.

*By the way, how do you damage an alternator in shipping? These beasts are pretty frikin stout animals...just a little bubble wrap and you would need sledge hammer to damage it.

I would ask 'em a question. Are these NEW Alternators or rebuilt?

My gut feeling is rebuilt at an autowise store. I would look and make sure it is a genuwine GM part that goes on the Sky....Skip....

They replaced the Engine Control Module and still the car isn't running right. Tomorrow they are taking a Sky RedLine from the showroom to test and compare it side by side to mine. That is what corporate told them to do, since they cannot figure it out.

Got it back Friday! They replaced the alternator again, put in a new engine control module, and a new starter. They replaced the starter because when they took the cable loose from it, a bolt broke out of it because a nut arched and welded itself to the bolt.

So far she's running great. Hopefully it won't happen again but, with my luck it will be something else in another week or so.

I'm definitely getting rid of this car before the warranty runs out!!!
