New speakers

Hi guys i see here that some of you have changed out the stock stereo system and i had a couple of questions for you since i plan on doing some minor changes myself. first of all, How strong is the factory head unit (monsoon). I havent been able to find any real specs that tell me the wattage of the speaker outputs. are the speakers powered by the monsoon amplifier or is that just for the subwoofer? also, how many ohms are the factory speakers? if possible i hope to simply change out the front speakers with some decent aftermarket components, if the impedance is the same. as far as i know most factory speakers are 2 ohms and nearly all aftermarkets are closer to 8 ohms which i know is not a good combination.

If this is the case i plan to purchase a separate 2 or 4 channel amp and use high level inputs off of the factory head unit (why replace it when it must be worth a pretty penny and lost all of my wonderful options like steering wheel controls, driver info, etc.) so i need to know if the stock headunit is powering my speakers or if the power is coming out of the rear monsoon amplifier.

please tell me if my plans make sense and if you guys have any suggestions or comments on things that i am missing or forgetting about. i dont want to have a competition system here, i just want to have better sound. i am thinking of going with some mb quart components up front and am not sure if i will be replacing the rears just yet because i hear it doesn't really make much of a difference. well thats all i have for now so i look forward to hearing your insights and opinions. thanks.

well, i can only answer one of your questions, but i believe the amp only powers the sub.
