Plastic Stuff Underneath the hood

I am just wondering what the plastic stuff underneath the hood are good for besides protecting the intercooler and engine from dirt/stones and air scoop to the intercooler/radiator?

I dettached the plastic shroud from the front fascia (underneath the intercooler, and the plastic scoop that scoops air into the intercooler and radiator recently. I am hoping that the engine as well as the intercooler will now have more air coming in and keeping them cooler.

Any pros and cons?

Keep an eye on your temps ... We were told by a GM engineer that piece was specifically designed to put more air into the engine compartment.

Info From GM Engineer Q&A [from International Solstice Meet] - Pontiac Solstice Forum

How important is the chin spoiler for my car? What happens if I remove it?
The chin spoiler, which I assume you mean the flap of rubber under the nose of the car, is very important in cooling. If you remove it, air that is supposed to be directed up into the radiator may pass underneath the car and your cooling flow may be reduced. I would not recommend you remove it.
