removing soft top, how?
my car is in the shop getting painted and the guy wants to completely remove my roof out of the car. I did a search but without much luck.
Is there anyone out there that has a step by step on the removal of the roof, if you do please send me the link. Thank you

Parking it for twenty minutes in south Newark, N.J. ought to do it.
Seriously, I've only seen it done once and it's all done from the trunk. Ray

I'm not an engineer, but I'm pretty handy. I even know that this is like removing a gear from an intricate watch. I don't think I'd approach this one unless it was critical. My advice, take a picture of EVERY step in removing it. It's saved me several times.

Top
I would be reluctant to remove the top, Saturn had to replace my top and it still doesn't seem like the new one is quite right. Dealing with some wind noise still.

Out of curiosity, why in the world is the top removal necessary? Rear-end damage? One thing for sure, IF removed, it might NOT ever be the same again after re-installation, unless a "professional" re-installs it, then it will be a hit or miss as to it functioning properly again, even Saturn has had issues & problems after replacing a top from the factory install..

BAD BAD idea!!!!!!!
Removing and replacing the top is probably pretty easy but realigning it, especially for a shop that already from the very start doesn't know how to take it off, will be pretty near impossible. I've had my top replaced by the dealer who uses a 3rd party shop that specializes in convertible tops and even with the experience they have it has never been perfect like it came from the factory. Avoid taking the top off at all costs!!!! You'll likely end up with wind noise and water leaks. |
