Silverstars

As I am sure many of you know, Silverstar turn signal bulbs look chrome when off and amber when on. The amber bulbs just look wrong with the otherwise perfect front lights on the Sky. Sylvania says the Silverstar for our car is the 4157. It won't just fit. It is the universal bulb. Some OE have the tabs in the center and some are offset. The 4157 has small tabs in the center. Our cars have the offset type. The 4157 won't just push in. It might go if you force it but I won't do that. I took a small file and filed off half of each tab to match the OE offfset and they plugged right in. Just posting in case it helps someone. If you already all knew this than I am sorry to waste your time. If someone wants photos tell me how to insert them and I will take photos and try. I am a truck driver not a computer whiz.

I just picked up a set of knock-off 3157 silver coated amber bulbs (search eBay under these exact words) for $3 plus shipping for a PAIR!!!! ($11 total). Why pay $29.99 for the same bulbs under the Stealth name...???

eBay Motors: 3157 Silver Chrome Natural Amber Bulb (item 170253884771 end time Sep-20-08 15:40:59 PDT)

The tabs are in the center like the 4157, but unless you never heard of an X-acto knife before, they can easily be trimmed in 20 seconds and SNAP...they install perfectly. Just cut 1/2 of the center tab and they line up fine.

Been running them for 10 days - no hyper flash like my old 45-LED amber's (no resistor...was lazy...but the LED's were brighter) and they look VERY clean in the "yolk" below...!

Ta da!

Silverstar headlights

Just a question, do silverstars look better then stock bulbs in the projectors? Are the daylight running lights the same bulb as night time? I know they were on my old beetle.

Wisconsin prices must be high. Silverstars are $20 around here.

Silverstars are different than Stealth's but virtually the same (Stealth is only online @ $30 a pop from what I have seen). Could not find any local auto shops with sliver plated ambers or LED's.

You can also get the 194's in a silver coated bulb but not worth it since they are blocked by the refractor lense. 194 LED's are really cheap on eBay as well - I have had 2 sets of LEDs - a 6-LED set which failed after a few thousand miles and most recently, a large single LED for the drive lights (~4mm diameter) and I also run a set of 6-LED ambers for the side markers. Both nice additions as well for small $$$ outlay.

Shortcut below to my previous LED post.
