Sky 2.0L Big-Bore Throttle Body
I am interested in getting the Big Bore Throttle Body from SMS. I have read a lot on the use and installation on the Sky 2.4 but have not noted on the RL use. Has anyone installed it on their RL? Has anyone did on their own if so was it difficult? I would appreciate any advise on the installation of the Throttle body on the RL.

What is the point of a bigger throttle body if no one is port matching the intake manifold?
Its not worth it imo, unless you have a sheet metal intake manifold and pushing 500hp or more i dont see the point. Spend your money elsewhere like on an exhaust/hiflow cat/intercooler.

As far as the Redline goes is it a big increase in HP and if you wouldn't ,ind posting what you have found about this because I am interested in this also.

I would not think one would see a big increase because of the boost maybe a little crisper throttle response.
I guess it would be the CFM that would be affected. So might help through out the power band. But, yes unless it is port matched then what is the gain. I would think there would be more turbulance from the unmatched ports. I know a guy that will take the stock and bore it out and port match the TB to the Intake.

I did mine. I bought it from SMS, but made the mistake of cleaning the orange paint off the inside of the throttle body before installing. If you do buy it, the orange paint is there for a reason - to perfectly seal the butterfly valve to the sides of the bored out TB. Otherwise you end up with a high RPM idle and CELs. I pulled it back off, re-sealed it with nail polish, reinstalled, cleared my CEL and RPMs at idle returned to normal. Have been running it now for 4 weeks without problems.
I cannot vouch for how many WHP it increases, but the theory is sound. When you look at the larger bored out TB next to the stock, there is a big difference between the two in how much air can make it through. My understanding is more air is more better. It is not that difficult to remove an replace - get yourself a short multi-angle socket driver - it will make life considerably easier. Also, getting the data/electrical connector off the TB can be tricky - unbolt the TB first, and then you can spin it to get to the harness - undo the harness clip and then squeeze the harness near the base and it will slide off. |

It's not that you get more air into the engine. On the 2.4L you suck in 2.4L of air each cycle regardless of the size of the throttle aperture. What you get is the same amount of air delivered with less friction due to the bigger diameter. Any increase in HP is really just a savings in the energy needed to suck in the air.
