Swapping back to summer tires, but...
Both front snows are refusing to be removed! (rears went no problem)
I have all the lug nuts removed, but the wheel itself is frozen to the hub. No amount of 'convincing' (that I was willing to apply) has helped in the least. I couldn't stop laughing! This was the last thing I expected... I've tightened everything back up and am going out to heat up the wheels/disks/hub and I'll see if re-heating the metal (hub and wheel are different - should expand under heat at different rates) on the road will help break them free. In the mean time - any suggestions?

rubber mallet to the back of the tire, when lifted. Tap tap tap... spin 1/4 turn... tap tap tap... spin 1/4 turn. Even a few gentle tap from the front may help... the idea is to rock it off
Careful if you choose to do this with a jack!

Good advice, that was exactly the type of 'convincing' that I had referred to.
No dice so far. <sigh/> Next comes heat (from a drive), followed by more of the same.

Mission accomplished
Ok - a little heat and a subtle application of force got it.
I was checking in case there was a some other more magic solution. The "(that I was willing to apply)" needs more explaination. This was not a failing of the spirit or the flesh - it was a tool problem ;0) When I started all I had at hand for 'convincing' my old reliable - see the hammer on the left. There was no way that I was going to bash my rims/sidewalls directly with that, so I was buffering it with a 2x4. Needless to say this was awkward, one handed and ineffective under the car. While I was out "heating up the works" I stopped off and picked up a new friend - on the right - which made short work of the problem. ![]()

For the rears... put the lugs back on 2 to 3 turns. Chock the front wheels. Jack the rear off the ground, by the dif. Start the car, put it into drive, get up to ~20 mph, stab the brakes. Make sure the garage door is open...just in case. You are on your own for the fronts. Good luck. -J

HINT... Prior to putting the wheels back on, smear a little "Anti-Seize" around the round circular part in the middle of the lugs. This should aid in removal next time around.
