Those that took in for Rear Recall...

Hey so ya'll know now with the recall Sinister has had her 4th done....

Those that took theirs in not the other times for leaks etc. but for this recall...

The Question.....

(Que in the Fat Bottom Girls Song)

*When you got your Sky back did she feel heavier in the back?

*Almost like your trunk was full and about to hit the ground all the time along with being sluggish feeling like she was just too heavy in back to really get the car going?

*Did your gas mileage get worse???

*Could you still smell the lube/oil whatever they used burning off?

Of course I am asking because ever since I had her back all of the above has happened!

Sorry,

No problem at all with the recall work done on my car. Took it to Saturn of Danbury, CT and they did it right in my opinion.

Set up appointment time and they kept to it.
Free rental car for the day Including gas use (didn't go far)
The service tech called me twice to tell me how the repairs were going and when they were done. (same day)
Approximately three hours to complete the seal recall and change the vent
Not a scratch, smudge, or loose part on the car when I picked it up.

Although,
She still has the clunk.
She still growls or howls whichever way you hear it going downhill foot off the gas at certain rpms in 2nd gear.

Anyway

Some quick checks you can do,
On level ground - chock (block) the front tires so the car won't roll forward - Jack the rear up - place jack stands in the approprite place so the car won't fall on your head - put the tranny in neutral - release the emergency brake - rear wheels should spin freely by hand with some friction from the rear brake calipers but without binding or excessive mechanical noise. You will hear the brake pads rubbing on the rotor and that is normal.
While up in the air,
Make sure the car is cold to the touch and Check the rear end housing and exhaust pipes if you can see it (sometimes you have to run your hand over it and feel the fluid) for rear end fluid spills. The rear end fluid smells nasty cold so I can just imagine what it's like heated up. Someone obviously might have spilled fluid during the Drain/filll process, or forgot to replace the vent properly.

Didn't notice any change.

I would take it back to the dealer soon. I didn't notice any change in performance. Mine leaked, had it fixed and then had it repaired under the recall as well.

All of the things you are experiencing do not appear to be normal.

Mine does none of those things, and yours shouldn't.

Kim,

They did Duckmobile in a few hours, I dropped it off in the morning and picked it up at lunch hour. Runs just like it did before I dropped it off, no leaks before and no leaks after.

I'm not sure what recall you're talking about, but did the recall involve replacing gears? Maybe they replaced the gears and you ended up with a different ratio? I'm guessing you have a 2.4. So all this could be possible if they put in the Sky RL gears on accident.

The recall involves only the pinion shaft seal.

Ok, the part the threw me off was that it appeared that she said it was not the seal recall.

Sounds like they overtorqued the yoke nut and have way to much preload on the pinion bearings. Take it back now or you may burn up the differentail.

If we are talking about the recall, I have no problems since it has been fixed. Just went 800 miles and Snow White is run GREAT! T.

It does sound like the differential has excessive drag and may be heating up. I'd take it back in soon for them to at least check the oil level. If no satisfaction call Saturn. If it is tight enough that you can feel the difference in how the car drives, caused the MPG to go down, and is heating up enough that you can smell the oil, it may burn up, and may fail big time and lock up! It seems I remember a spec. for how much torque it takes to rotate the yoke to check bearing pre-load.
