Trunk opened by itself while driving...

I've had my Sky for one week now and was out driving off some more of my "break-in" miles. I was going about 35 or so down a main drive and accidently hit a small pot hole. It was really more like a little piece of raised asphalt around the lip of a manhole cover. Anyway, it wasn't severe as far as road hazards go. However, upon running over this object, my trunk popped open. The warning signal sounded and the "trunk is ajar" message popped up in the DIC. Luckily the trunk didn't fly all the way open; it just popped ajar. My wife put her hand on it until we could safely stop and get out and reclose it. My concern is triggering this again at a high speed, such as the freeway, and having the trunk fly all the way up and potentially off.

Has this happened to any of you? Thanks.

I have always wondered if that was possible. It has never happen to me but I do think about it once every now and then when I going down the Highway with the top down.

I would take it to the dealer and have them check it over but at least the safety catch did hold!!

The solinoid does not have power to it after 3 mph. It might not have been closed properly to begin with. A couple of members like me have hit the button and the fob at over 3 mph and nothing happens....Skip...

In almost two years on this forum, this is the first time I've heard of this.

I would check the closed sensor. If it was not fully latched and you were not getting the warning, its possible that the sensor is out of adjustment. Unless I slam the bejezus out of mine the sensor gives me a warning light.

Trunk opened by itself while driving...

Thanks everyone for your replys and advice. We'll be taking our Sky back to the dealer tomorrow for a few adjustments and will definately inquire about the trunk opening ajar incident. We just did a test run consisting of driving down our street and hitting the trunk release button in the glove box and on the key FOB and it didn't open.

We'll post again with whatever the dealer tells us. Thanks again.

You can now make this twice you have heard of this. At approximately 500 miles on my Sky, the trunk latch popped open at 95 MPH. The convertible top was up, and the top's tabs did not open from the trunk lid, so I pulled over to the side, opened the trunk fully and reclosed it.

Other than at the dealer, when I picked up the car, I had not opened the trunk up to this point, so we are talking almost 500 miles of driving before the occurrence. Now with 1000 miles on the car it has not happened again.

The car is scheduled in to the dealer this Saturday, and I will have it investigated and noted on the repair bill ... just in case.

Oh No

This is not an isolated incident in my mind. I've had trunk issues ever since I bought this car. Just recently, I took my car in for inspection and recall work. And low and behold during the test driving by the tech after the recall work the trunk came up. The wind got hold of it. The entire trunk lid and bumber had to be replaced. So I lost the sky for 2 freaking weeks. Not sure if I am crazy or not, but I never gave it a second thought about getting another car, for now I still love this thing.

WOW! I've never given this much thought. What really bothers me is that you drove almost 500 miles before it decided to pop open.

Trunk opened by itself while driving...

xmicro_redline,

Thanks, but I brought it to the dealer but they couldn't replicate it. Hopefully it was just a freak thing. In any event it has been noted by the dealer.

Yoda

This would have never happened on my Land Speeder.

This couldn't have happend as the button is located in an area away from the storage compartment. There is only a micro thin space between the glove door and the button.

As I noted in my original post, my trunk lid popped open at 500 miles. The dealer was very concerned and (unluckily ... for the first few good weather days here in NE Ohio) kept the car for a few days to investigate the issue fully. Their real concern seemed to be:
* the fact that it popped up at 500 miles, and had not been opened since I took delivery, so it was not a "customer" that did not know how to close the trunk lid;
* the convertible side tabs did not release, so it was not an electrical opening;
* I had noted I was driving at "HIGH" way speeds (maybe a little in excess of 65 MPH ); and
* finally, I wanted to make sure the service order clearly indicated to problem the car was in for.

Well, after their detailed investigation, they found nothing.

Happy roads ahead.

My dealer actually warned that this could occur. He said we should always give the trunklid a good slam. Apparantly it's happened here in Albuquerque before.

Trunk lid opened while driving

I was just pulling out onto the road, when I heard a bing bing. I couldn't look down just at that sec. because I was pulling into traffic. But the second I could safely I looked and my message read truck lid ajar. I instantly looked in the side mirrow and saw the truck ajar. I slowed to pull over but not before air caught the trunk lid and it flew open. Of course there was damage to the lid and to the rear. The only thing that I know that could have happened was that when I was pulling out making a left had turn, my right knee hit and traped the remote between the steering box. I did not hear the trunk release because of my 12 year old had the music up. I called the dealer and they told me to bring it in so they could look at it. I had the converible up and they are saying I had to have not shut the trunk properly but I had not opened my truck for 2 days. Anybody else have problems like this???? Any suggestions on how to handle the dealership so I can get this fix..

You did not have the trunk closed right. It does not come open by itself. It can not open when going over a mile an hour cause the circuit is open and can not be accessed by the button in the glovebox or the fob....Skip...

Skip, As I said I was pulling out to traffic, so I was at a almost stop. Also, the trunk had not been opened for 2 days and about 150 miles. So why open then???

This has not happened to me while moving, but one time after my wife drove and didn't put the seat back, I accidently hit the key fod with my knee

I must of hit the trunk button because the trunk popped open.

That said, are you sure that when you hit the bump that your knee didn't accidently hit the key fob?
