I bought a Midnight Blue Redline in April and I am having a reoccurring issue with the trunk. On both sides of the trunk's hood, there are two small stump-like stops with foam padding on the bottom of them. My issue is, the foam keeps breaking, leaving residue and indentations on my convertible top.
Initially it was the driver's side stop, but I had that fixed at the dealership. But tonight, I realized that the passenger side stop has the broken foam and its leaving the residue again. Has anyone else had this problem? I can foresee this being and ongoing issue and I am not happy about it. I always make certain to push down the top as far as possible before cloing ther trunk.
I'm in the midst of typing an e-mail to the manager of the dealership, but I wanted to know if this is a common problem before I send it.
Welcome to the forum! Afraid that's not ringing any bells here. Anyone heard of this?
Thanks! The residue from the stops reminds me of eraser dust, where you have to sweep it with your hand to get it off, but the stops are black and I have a tan top. This is not a good combination. This will be the third time I've taken my car in for service in as many months.
I take it when you said indentions on your hood, you meant indentions on your top?
This is a common problem. The dealer fixed the driver side. Have them fix the passenger side.
You can also do like me and put microfiber towels on the top on each side when stowing the top.

Thanks, yes, I meant my top. Having to put towels down seems like a major inconvenience due to a faulty car part. I guess if my top were black it wouldn't be as big an issue, but it's quite visible on the tan top. Thanks for your input. I just sent the dealer an e-mail in hope that something can be done where this problem won't persist.

Ah, the SKY excels at inconveniences. For some, they are minor. For others...major. If you consider towels on the top as major....then it's going to be a pretty rough relationship.
It adds maybe 10 seconds to my down routine and less than five for my up. This, considering a proper down routine requires action on both sides of the car anyway.

I am a new Sky Owner. Also own A Chev Diesel PU. What is the top down method you mentioned. As you can see big change in vehicle type. Also why not a V8 or even a V6. Plenty of room. My PU will out run a redline with ease.
Both my foam pads have come off time and time again. It is due to the overwhelming trunk heat from the muffler being under there. I have tried 3 different types of double sided adhesives, to no avail. If you get the muffler-less RPI exhaust, the trunk does not get hot and your adhesive does not melt, so the foam pads stay in place. Other than that, use microfiber cloths like me and Bogie and deal. Good Luck. BTW all the dealer fixes go bad eventually, trust me!
Those stops keep the top pushed down when the lid is closed. Yes they do work loose and break away. Tell the dealer to reglue the tops with a good glue that holds up to the heat generated by the exhaust under the rear floorplan....Skip...and a towel where each part hits is a good idea too....

Yes this is an issue and yes it is covered by your warranty. There was a change in the block that happened about 8 months ago to address the problem. A low tech solution is to get some felt with a sticky back from the local arts and craft store. I know several folks who have used that to cover the blocks (me included) and it is still suck months later. Hope that helps.

Thanks everyone! Mike, that seems like a great solution! I was trying to figure out what type of material would work best instead of the foam, and felt does sound like a great alternative. Are dealers aware of this change in the block from a few months back?
The dealer said that I should expect a call from the service manager today and I now have other stories to back up my claim, because initially I was blamed when I took the car back the first time for not pressing the top down far enough and I knew that wasn't true.

Do we have a description or photo? My RL was built about that time and I'm curious if I have the new blocks.
Off topic - from reading the forum it seems foam blocks were used to keep the drain pocket open. My RL has plastic clips instead. Another incremental improvement?
I purchased my RL a month ago and the weather in Seattle has been great, so I have not driven in the rain yet. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Try a hot glue gun.Works great. And its a lot cheaper than a exhaust system. By the time the dealer gets done with it,your fenders will be cracked, your antenna will be broke off and probly have holes poked in your seats. In other words....do it yourself.

Nope ... But if you had a new one and an old one side by side you could see the difference ...

Thanks. I will relay this information to the dealership whenever they decide to call me. If anyone has the new blocks, I would greatly appreciate a photo just to verify with the dealer. *goes to buy felt* :-)
