Trunk Windscreen

I get my new sky in a few weeks and was looking at the Version 1 windscreen. I dont plan to keep it in while my top is up and dont mind taking the extra 2 seconds to put it away but Im worried about the plastic windscreen mounted in between the trunk and dont want to do any damange to the trunk. Oh also I dont want to get the V2. V1 seens more stable at higher speeds and velcro wears over time. So I guess my question is, Will putting the windscreen between the trunk do damange to the trunks seals over time? I read FAQ's on it and they say you have to slam the trunk harder the normal with it in, wouldnt that mean its pushing back the trunk and over time water when it rains would start to sneak in? Thanks for the replys!

I dont have to shut my trunk any harder with my V1 at all... I dont remove mine and havnt for about a year... just once in a while to clean...I have never had an issue with wear either on the trunk or the WindRestrictor... WindRestrictor has an awesome product that will compliment your car perfectly. Great Choice. SkyBaby

I was worried about this problem also. That's why I bought the one that mounts behind the seats. I don't know what version it is but I bought it off ebay for what that's worth.

You havent had any water leak in your trunk by using the V1? It just looks like to me that it pushes it back a bit. Im still on the fence and might just deal with the extra wind

V1 versus V2

I've had the V2 for a over a month now and have not had a problem with vibration at any speed or highway condition so far and that includes driving the Grapevine into LA a couple of times, for anyone who's flown, I mean driven the route. No need to take it down as it fits under the top when up and even etched it does not block the view. Work with Steve if you have any questions or concerns cause those guys are great. Just wish the amber would have come out sooner cause it looks terrific.

You'll love either version.

I have the V1 and I might be the only one, but my weatherstripping tore about an half inch. I have not had a leak, but I'm watching it.

I've had a v1 for 18 months, no problem at all.

The thickness of the KappaSphere version (if that's what you're looking at in terms of a removable) is well within the allowance of the rubber gasket. In fact, I think it is about as thick as the multi-layer top when it passes through the same space...

So, you could argue, if you have the top up you may displace the seal somewhat... Placing the plastic sheild in that space with the top down "seals that gap" and keeps the spacing there consistent.

It takes no more effort to close the trunk with the windscreen in place - no more than it would if the top was up.

I have the inside one too. I never notice it at all, whether top up or down.

Windrestictor

I have an illuminated and etched V2 on my Sky and leave it right in place. Like said before, it presents no vision problems. As for the velcro concern, it really is not velcro but more like a clear industrial strength velcro like material that actually takes some effort to separate. Since the Winderstictor V2 is under cover with the top up, should we decide to drive in the rain of course, there are no leaking issues. But also just be aware that the Windrestrictor does not cut out ALL of the cocpit air motion but does reduce it some. It is more for show (just like the car). I love mine.

The crew at Windresrtictors.com are great to work with and will answer any questions you may have....give them a call. My advice would be to install a V2 and forget it. Just my input.

I have two V2s in two cars. I know that they are good to 110 mph with no problems. Have not done a high speed test yet.

Id like to know if those grommets effect the fabric when the top is up too.

I received and installed my V1 last week. When I opened the carton, I thought "What a flimsy POS!" But But But. I will never, NEVER drive my Sky again without a Windrestrictor V1 again. It is the difference between Night and Day, Cold and Hot; well>> you get the picture. BUY IT, YOU WON' REGRET IT!

I thought all Skys leaked. I thought that was the reason for the little cubes to hold the canvas trough open to drain the water into the drains in the trunk.

i bought the V1....sold it on ebay since i was worried about displacing the rubber trunk seal. It also made it harder to shut the trunk. My main concern was removing the windscreen after a year of usage and how it would keep water out of the trunk. I ended up going with the V2 and love it. It doesn't rub on the rear glass like the V1, which is very important if you tint your windows like i did. Even with the rubber tabs they give with the V1, the long term vibrations will fade, etch your window tinting on those spots.

I guess to be fair, its up to preference.
The V1 installs and looks "cleaner" but has some mechanical drawbacks.

The V2 requires either velcro or drilling to mount behind the seats. It doesn't look as nice...but only when you have the seats pulled forward. Another thing i noticed about the V2 is that the back of the seats will rub and on occasions squeek against the plexi glass. I had to add some felt stripes to the plexi glass where the seat comes in contact with the plexi glass.. Again , you can't see any of this when the seat is in the normal position, but it doesn't look pretty when you pull the seats forward.

Well, I wasn't going to say anything cause I love my WR. However, I bought one of the last ones that were created by the founder Robert. Unfortunately after a little over a year mine at first warped in this Florida heat, then cracked and then finally breaking off at both ends.. Altho i could of removed it, i did not because of the fact that it was an "original".. and has, (and still does) have sentimental value to me. For now ima gonna hang it up in my garage and light it up once in awhile. Once i saw what was happening, Stephen took care of me and created a V2 for us with the same design that Robert found, all exactly the same only a V2. I also had issues and worries of the rubber seal on the truck either breaking or warping, and that it did (warp & bent up wards), also it IS harder to close the trunk AND it does not pop up as it should when you hit the tops FOB switch. After removing the V1, all went back to normal, and I'm happy to report that even tho the rubber seal is bent, I have not had any water leaks or tears on the rubber seals. If it gets worse, I'll have my boys just replace that front part of the seal if it becomes needed. BTW, once I installed the V1, I never ever removed it, it was, or I wanted it to be a permanent install, unfortunately, that did not work out...

PS: BTW, the stuff being used to secure the V2 is NOT velcro, it is something much more permanent if you will, and in fact I told Robert about this stuff when we talked about the fact that he was developing a V2 and needed a material that can hold it in place without drilling holes. I suggested to him to check out this stuff called "Super Lock". Rat Shack, errr, Radio shack sells the stuff in black OR in a clear material. Once these 2 babies are secured and pressed together, in many cases you need a screw driver to pry them apart, at least with the black ones... we'll see how they hold up in our heat down here... hmm, wife asked me when I was going to install the V2... I told her soon...

If the Windrestrictor is installed properly, there should be no tearing of seals or leaking at all. It's been 2 years or more and we've not had any calls at all regarding this.

If there is a concern about the weather stripping moving too much or the trunk not opening it's because the product is not installed properly. Please give us a call so that we can run over a check list to make sure it's installed right.

The screws have to be tightened down snug, keeping those spacers away from the fabric, and the trunk seal....

But don't over tighten. I usually tell people, when you see the acrylic start to press against the rear panel right around the screw area then your tight enough... any tighter and the acrylic may break....

the warping is an issue though for people who choose to leave theirs on with the top up... If you are leaving your top up for periods of time and it gets extremely hot then it will begin to form to that back window.. we've had people say that they like this effect. But it is a disclaimer we give with all of our instructions as of several months ago...

Hi all,

I just recently ordered my WR and am still waiting to see the first draft of my design. you raise an important issue to me when you say that warping may occur when the roof is left up for extended periods of time due to heat. Well I live in Canada so the heat issue is really not that big of a deal but what about winter storage with the top up for 5 or 6 months. What are your thought with respect to this?

tks

Brian
