Upper Dash Removal
Ok here's taking out the upper dash. It's for whatever reason you want or need. For me, I'm doing the gauge swap and reupholstering. If you want to do it for something else, it may help you save some time figuring it out and heartache. In my other photo essay, I failed to mention that you should disconnect the battery when doing electrical work or messing with the airbag. Don't anger the airbags.

I guess I'm not allowed to mention the vendor of the gauge facades/LED mod, but a search will reveal it. If not PM me and I'll give you the vendor's web page.

It's my understanding that you can use the name of the item, but not post a direct link or contact info. I would be very interested in knowing who makes updated guages for our cars.

The gauge maker is Black Cat Custom.

not to take your expertise away...but i did the gauge swap also...u do not have to take apart the entire dash board
just take off the entire lower dash and the left window trim...u do not have to remove it all the way...the trim that is....the dash now has the flexibility to be lift up and remove the stock gauge and remove the harness pins...then just do the reverse...myself and coopcj7 both swapped out our base sky instrument clusters for the R/L...everything is plug and play... |

And now some advice..do not go with Black Cat...people have had problems. To me the R/L gauges r the richest. Keep yours if u have a R/L. One other thing..DO NOT REMOVE THE RADIO for a gauge swap...just the lower instrument cluster. Last edited by marlboromike : 08-31-2008 at 08:03 AM. |

The gauge facade is ok. There's minor bubbles in it, but I haven't had any problems with it. I think it looks better than stock, so yes, I do like it. The swap was easy. And Micheal is correct, you don't have to remove everything to remove the cluster. I just did all my mods together and at once, so I had my whole interior ripped out for ease. So don't be taking out your radio as instructed.
