Wading pond in my trunk!

Well.... I havnt felt well for a while... just finishing up meds , but I thought since it is sunny out and I havnt gotten the rest of my junk out of my car since I got back from Florida and then got Jade back from Saturn of Joliet ,,, that I would do that.... I cleaned out the inside... GREAT... NO PROBLEM!!! then, I popped the trunk... and.... OMG..... I AM SO PIIISSSSSSSSSST!!!!!!!

There was about 2 inches of water... Why you may ask?????? THEY DIDNT PUT ALL THE DRAINS IN THE TRUNK BACK TOGETHER AFTER THEY WERE CHECKING THE WIRING!!!!! OMG.... HOW STUPID CAN THEY BE? ... I knew I had some tour T-Shirts, Beads.. and.... 16 OF MY CALENDARS back there.. and I had forgotten that my CAMCORDER .. brand new... was back there... When I dropped Jade off at the dealership, after getting back from Florida.... I was going to take out the few things that I knew were back there... but, I didnt need the car care items and I knew I wouldnt need the beads and shirts until later on... So.. I just left that stuff in there.... well... needless to say.... IT IS ALLLLL RUINED!!! I am just so sick to my stomach... and there is MOLD on the shirts, cleaning rags, etc... the camcorder carrier was totally soaked and my windscreen sleeve that I made is moldy too........ I just dont know what to do at this point.... I am way to mad to call them.. Brian is going to have to call..... Can I NOT trust any Dealership????? I know they forgot to put the drains attatched to the lid back in... because when I was in Florida after I got her back the previous time from the dealership..... Seal9 and I noticed that and he helped put them back in... I wasnt strong enough..... the one that made all this damage was the one in the center at the back of the trunk with wires going through ...... I am just so ticked! SkyBaby

So the damage the best I can come up with is....

Pink Beads from Oriental Trading Co. 25.00
16 SkyBaby Calendars 320.00
5 Tour T-Shirts 50.00
Camcorder 800.00
Car Cleaning clothes 15.00

About 1200$......... Just ticks me off !

That is a bad fubar even for a dealership, I hope they at least bend over backwards trying to make it right. There's just no excuse, I think you are handling it better than many would though.

Joliet?..Isnt that a prision? Sorry to hear about your mis-fortune...In my dealership when they replaced the wheel wells on the drivers front they did it correct and on the passengers rear, they put it on wrong, how can they do the same job, but two different results. Then i saw the reflector on the drivers side pushed out more then it is on the passangers side, are thsese guys paying any attention to what they are doing? Or are they doing a 1/2 A** Job?...This is why I was so reluctent to buy another domestic car, they just don't care...Thats my 2 Cents....SteveSky67

It's been raining here for the last 3 or 4 days and after reading your post Aubrey I decided to go check mine out. Last time I washed mine I noticed the day after that the carpeting in the driver’s side of my trunk was wet along with a towel that I had back there. Sure enough the carpet in the trunk was soaking wet on the driver’s side and about half way across at the back.

As far as I can tell all the drains are hooked up. The car stays covered with a high quality car cover when it is not being driven though I know this does nothing to keep out water. I'm going to ask about this at the plant tour along with seeing if they will check the alignment of my trunk. The driver’s side sits a little lower on the driver’s side and is a little out of alignment but not enough to let water in.

Mine gets damp at the rear of the trunk (low point). What I think may be happening is there is a place at the rear center trunk where water can collect on the steel plate between the hinges. I notice this when washing. I haven't figured out if it collects during channeling or just collects when I open the wet trunk to let water run off after washing. But water will collect in the center. I suspect water that collects here will slosh when driving and dampen the carpet in the rear. I'll pay closer attention over the next few weeks and see if I can nail down the true source.

As for Skybaby, it's not a matter of design, it's pure negligence on the part of whoever didn't reconnect things properly.

I'm going to have to keep a close eye on this myself as it has been raining here in Tampa for the last 2 days. We get a lot of rain here and I would hate for this to be a problem.

That's kind of a silly comment to make...are the mechanics at the BMW dealership European....I thought they were American, just like the ones at the Saturn Dealership

We have had over 8 inches of rain in the St Louis area in March and I was worried about that happening, but I must also be one of the lucky ones. Trunk is dry as a bone. Actually hearing about your troubles with your car I really feel lucky with mine!

Yes... I wasnt saying it is a design flaw.... it is a STUPID EXPENSIVE mistake by the techs...... I didnt take pics... the calendars are a blob of paper and color... and the beads... I do have more of them.... the shirts are totalled... from the beads and calendars.... UGH...... I am though, worried about my camcorder.... I turned it on... that is all it would do, the screen said MOISTURE DANGER! A;LSKDJF;LAJSKDFL;AJSD;LFJASD;LFJKASD;KLF:banghead :

I certainly hope they dont shrug it off like a few mistakes at the Rockford Dealership.....

As far as the camcorder goes, the best that you can do is remove the batteries and let it dry out for several days before trying to turn it on at all. It is possible that it may work again once everything dries out, but turning it on while it is still wet will probably cause something to short out and fry it totally.
