wind noise
I have had my car to the dealer now on 4 different occations regard wind noise while the top is up.
Normally I would expect a certain amount being a convertaible, but mine is certainly excessive. So far they have changed the window seals and tried manual adjustments but have only seemed to make it worse. They claim that there is adjustment rods and other points they can adjust to try and seal it up better... That being said has anyone else had problems with theres? |

Mine is very cozy with the top up.
The only time I noticed excessive wind noise is when I failed to line up the B-pillar recepticles with the top. My standard routine for raising the top includes checking to ensure the top is seated properly on both sides.

Mine is a little loud on the passenger side, but since I am rarely on the passenger side, it doesn't bother me. I just crank the sound up on ZZ Top and the noise seems to go away!

The feedback Im getting from the dealership is thats the best they can get....they wanted me to take it 4 hrs outside of where i live to this shop that another dealership uses that specialize with rag tops.....but I told them to forget it.
Im not sure what to do....If I was to force the issue of a new roof, Im sure I may be able to get it....but Im just affraid that it would be the same or worse. Why do we have to worry about this stuff when we buy brand new? Thanks for your replys |

I got my car back from the dealership for the 4th time and still no resolve.
They say they have exhausted all adjustments and cant get ride of the remainder wind noise.(nature of the beast) was there comment. The nose comes from just behind the drivers seat, and you can see how there is a quater inch of window that doesnt seat on the seal properly. They almost need to adjust the window position , but they are affraid of making it worse on other areas of the seal. |

Maybe you should test drive another Sky. Then if it isn't as bad you can ask them why that one is fine, yet yours is just normal with the wind noise.
Sucks that the specialty guy is 4 hours away. Although, getting it to him may be your only option. They should be able to get it there for you, I don't see why it should be your problem to deal with. You're not the one providing warranty on the car, it's them.

I have the exact same noise problem, just behind the driver side window. I just assumed it was normal as this is my first convertable so I didn't know any better. The passenger side is also a problem but I never sit there so it really doesn't bother me that much ![]() |

Wind Noise
We had our car in 4 times for the top and other issues regarding the top. It started right after we bought it, we told them that the hook didn't seat properly on the passenger side when putting the top up. They told us then that were no adjustments for the top. So we just lived with the fact that we would have to make sure it was popped in to the boot properly. Well after the winter of having the top up and opening and closing the passenger door it wore holes in the edge of the top. So they had to put a new top on it, that is when my wind noise began. I have had it back to them twice since the new top to take care of it and now I am not sure how much wind noise we were dealing with before the new top or if I am just being overly picky about it now. I still have wind noise. I do know that when the hook does not seat properly in the boot we would have noise. Hope that helps a bit. Barb

If the top, doors and windows are adjusted properly you should not have excessive wind noise. You will get wind noise transfer through the fabric but the sides should seal adequately to prevent wind noise and air leaks.
The windows are adjustable up and down, and for tilt in and out. The doors are adjustable within a small range, the top has many adjustments, they are just somewhat complex and can be challenging for the average tech with no experience to figure out. The best bet it to get the windows and doors adjusted properly by the dealer tech because its a straight forward mechanical process. they use smoke generators to check for leakage. Its actually pretty interesting reading in the shop manual. Then take it to a convertible top expert to get the top adjusted. It should work perfectly every time. Dont accept anything less. |

Mine is veryyyyy quiet. I love it! I've only heard wind noise once and that was because I didn't align it properly. So, I pulled over and opened it and reclosed it and it was A-OK!

I had some issue with noise at the base of the back of both windows. Both sides had some issues with the peg seating in the slot at the base of the B-pillar. The adjustment I made was to give the mechanism a good shove while the top was partially closed. That took care of that problem. There was still some noise on the right side. Off came the interior door panel. The windows can be adjusted up and down, tilt in and out (CAREFUL on that one), AND forward and back! There are clamps at the base of each window. Caution: tighten these too much and YOU ARE BUYING A NEW GLASS. I moved the right window rearward about 3/16". Then I adjust the front up a bit. Bingo. About as quiet as a modestly well engineered top will be.

If you're having a problem pin-pointing the source of the air noise, just use painters tape and tape off areas of the car where you think the noise is coming from. Road test and check. If the noise is either limited or gone, you found the source. Next would be an approach you can take to eliminate it. With convertible tops, it can be tricky but not impossible. You would need to know about all the possible adjustments....something like that is better left for the tech. At least you can point them in the right direction.

wind noise?
My Sky is pretty quiet, with the top up and latched down.
Last week I had my car in for 6000 mile service, and when leaving it looked like it might start raining so I put the top up. after driving a short distance I noticed that the wind sound had become louder from behind me over my left shoulder. when I connected the Buttress on the driver's side I must have not completely had it hooked, and after a short distance it had popped out of the plug on the trunk deck. of course the first blame was the mech. had somehow messed up my car. but it was my fault, and after pushing the buttress back.......all is quiet. ![]() butter

I too had/have wind problems. I found the worst leak (rubber gasket not seated on metal lip of roof) by turning the fan on max and listening/feeling outside. Worked good. Now I need to find my packed stethoscope to find the little remaining leak.
Try the 'air test' - good luck. bo barredy |
