Wind Restrictor Issue

Coming home from NJ this past weekend, I noticed as I was traveling at high speeds (following SKYMAN-CT home) on the highway, my WR was about to blow off. So I reached behind my seat and held my WR so it wouldn’t blow off and hit any vehicles behind me. Unfortunately there were no shoulders to pull off to, so I continued to hold it for miles, switching hands to hold on to it. When I finally got a chance to put my flashers on (so SKYMAN knew I had an emergency) I pulled over.
So here I was all by myself standing on my seat trying to put my WR back on to the Velcro. There were eighteen-wheelers flying by me and blowing me over, as I tried to attach the WR. SKYMAN-CT did see my flashers on and he pulled over too, but he was a distance ahead of me and could not help. The passenger seat Velcro was snug and firm against the WR, due to the fact the seat was against it. This is why it probably didn't blow off. My question is?????
1. Did the Velcro loosen up due to the fact the driver seat isn't snug against the WR (my seat is moved up about 3 or 4 inches.)

2. Is the Velcro defected on the one side.

Will this happen again?

After I pushed it back in place it did not fall off again, but will it fall off in time?

Did I loosen it up myself self by standing on my seats. Maybe I pushed against it?

Has this happen to anyone else?

The good news…. I didn’t lose my WR and it didn’t fly off and hit anything.
The bad news …my neck is in so much pain. It’s been 4 days and I still can’t turn my neck at all. Now instead of being a pain in the neck, I have a pain in the neck. Ouch

You might want to check to see if the adhesive came lose or the velcro. If its the velcro, you might have knocked it lose someway and you just need to be sure its pressed and secure against the receiving side. If it was the adhesive, I would replace that adhesive strip

There is adhesive on the back of both of the strips which adhere it to the body of the car behind your seat.. The velcro on the front makes the connection and creates the bond. If the two velcro strips are not pressed properly together they will not create the bond necessary to hold the WR in place. If they are not in place it is just a matter of moving it around until it hard to pull them apart. If the adhesive has failed then you need to replace the entire strip.

You might just need to slide your seats all the way back and let them put pressure on the velcro to re-establish the adhesive bond on the back side. As the installation instructions for the Windrestrictor say, it works best if pressure is maintained overnight.

Worth a try and a heck of a lot easier than changing out the entire velcro setup. Good Luck

Ok I went outside while it was still light and the Velcro seems really secure. I put some pressure on it like Munford Sky said to do too. It is very tight. I took it on the highway and drove faster then I should have, just to see if it would become loose. It seemed tight. But I did notice that is shook a lot. There was a lot of movement but it stayed tight. I wonder if it has always done that? Thanks for the help. Hugs T.

T- i dont understand?

Why did you not call us... You guys- I guess you think that we do not like dealing with issues like this. This is our main job, to insure that each customer is satisfied and happy with our product. If anything ever happens please, by all means contact us and we can help you.

If you ever put pressure on your winscreen from one side (I'm not sure but like if you stood on your seats and it pressed it funny) and it's not snapped together like it should be then yes, you will experience this.

This material is not velcro. It snaps together with a male and female locking system. It's almost impossible to pull it off without starting from one side. The adhesive part (the side that sticks to the car) will come off before the material will ever give loose. The Dual Lock is guaranteed for at least 250 removals per the manufacturer. If anyone experiences something like this please contact us so that we can know what's going on. We tested the version 2 at about 110-120 mph.

call us tomorrow so i can explain this to you T.

Goodnight!

Oh Dear…… I have issues with my WR again.
I went on a trail run with SKYMAN-CT, Stretch246, and Jazzjet and my WR fell off again. Not having my seats all the way back it fell off on both sides this time. It just didn’t fall off on one side, it fell off on both sides this time. Not good! I was only traveling about 35 mph. We pulled over and I reattached the WR and I also moved my passenger’s seat all the way backs so it would push against the WR. I traveled many miles and thought everything was ok again. But when I got on the highway, it blew off again.
I was glad my husband was with me cause he held it for me. (My neck would have been messed up again. Today was the first day my neck felt better.) Something is very wrong with this. My WR is now becoming more and more scratched. I am not a happy camper.
I will be calling WR on Monday. I am sure they will fix my problem and know why the WR won’t hold. T.

T, please do not drive with the WR anymore until we talk. Who installed it for you?

Did they clean the rear panel with alcohol? I may have the perfect solution for you so please call us asap... This is not supposed to be happening.

Hey T, I think the main issue is the fact that you don't have any pressure against the WR from the seats combined w/ the stickies not being sticky anymore. Not sure how far away the seats are from the WR but what I would suggest is having Stephen send you fresh sticky stickys. Then go to a car dealership and get two of those pieces of hard foam thats used to protect the car doors during delivery. Its about 2"x2". grab 2 of 'em and some double sided sticky tape. Using this method you will have some pressure against both sides which will prevent some of the vibration you are getting. I think its actually better that you are using the adhesion method as opposed to the screws since the same pressure placed on a windscreen attached by screws would cause the screw holes to strip.

Just my 2cents.

Thanks for your
I have to agree with you about the WR being defective. When I attach my WR I can hear it lock in place. Maybe I need more then the average person cause my seat isn't against the WR. I have an appointment with the dealership on July 7 and I will ask about the foam you are talking about. My seat is about 3 inches away from the WR. I am going to try to see if I can get a hold of Stephen today. I want to use my WR. I looks so cool. Why me.... I'll keep ya posted. T.

Neither of my seats touch the WR and the velcro strips are holding fine. I have even taken it, top down, out on the NASCAR track in Ft Worth and driven it 115MPH and it stayed stuck fine. Work with Stephen they are good people. The WR is not defective.

T. my seats are not pressed on my WR and it holds perfectly up to speeds I would rather not publish.

Anyway, I think when you installed it you may have not properly cleaned the surface, and/or left the seats FIRMLY against the WR to keep constant pressure for the recommended amount of time after install.

I would have Stephen send you new strips and follow the install to the letter, it should hold fine. Also, when jumping around the cabin be careful not to pull on it, it is very tempting since it is the only thing to really grab hold of. Use the back of the seats to pull yourself up if you are kneeling on the seat.

I talked to Stephen today and like you said we are going to reinstall new strips to the car and on the WR. I am mailing it back to him so he can install it correctly and test it on a SKY before sending it back.
Yes Dad. I will be extra careful when "jumping around" (like a crazy gal) in the cabin. I actually pull myself up by the steering wheel. You have been behind me on trips and I stand on my seats all the time, so I will be very very careful NOT to touch the WR. I guess they didn't design the WR for people like me. . Seriously I think putting new strips on correctly should fix the problem. T.
