Chevy Kappas in India

I stumbled across this article on the web today Chevrolet Opel GT Review | Chevrolet Cars. Fortunately there were 18 pictures of Opel GTs that went along with this article that served as proof that they were talking about an Opel GT. The part I like the best about the India version of the Sky is that “ all three passengers in rear get personal seatbelts which provides them with safety”.

Chevrolet Opel GT Review
Written by Amit Bhawani on Sunday, 28 September 2008

Spanning over the market
A formidable name amongst the foreign car manufacturers that have entered the Indian automobile market is Chevrolet. After enjoying years of success in the US the company has decided to launch a number of models in India. This is because the economy of India has progressed by leaps and bounds increasing the demand for cars. Amongst all the various models that Chevrolet has released in India the Opel GT is one of the finest cars soaring the market. The passenger car market has rich potentials in India and General Motors have decided to capitalize on the situation.

It is no secret that there are a number of foreign car manufacturers battling it out on the Indian frontier. Hence to win over a share of the market Chevrolet has stepped up its efforts by producing advanced ergonomics and safety aspects in their cars. The Chevrolet Opel GT is a fine example of this relentless effort of General Motors. With such advanced features the car has managed to influence a considerable proportion of the public into choosing the Chevrolet Opel GT over its competitors.

A closer look at some of the features will illustrate further why the car has been causing ripples in the market. Firstly it features a 5 point central locking system. The front seats have been made anti submarine. All three passengers in the rear get personal seatbelts which provides them with safety. The Chevrolet Opel GT has auto door unlocking crash sensors which pop open in the case of an impact. Crumple zones have been incorporated in the front and rear end of the car in order to minimize the force of the impact on the people inside. Both the front and back seat belts are height adjustable and the car also has a collapsible steering and pedals. The bumpers can absorb around 5mph energy and the car also has a rigid passenger cell.

As if all these features are not enough to convince an individual the Chevrolet Opel GT has powerful breaks and an anti dive front suspension along with a rear defogger. All these features combined provide all sorts of active and passive safety to the passengers insuring minimal risk of injury in the case of an accident. The car has a hefty engine that can give you powerful performance along with an air-conditioning filtering system that removes all sorts of unhealthy particles from the air inside the car. It’s not hard to imagine why this car is getting so popular amongst families in India.

We will send you some more information related to Chevrolet Opel GT Review

Wow...do our Skys have this feature? It would be nice to know this before I took my Sky to sea.

All three of my imaginary friends have told me they really appreciate the safety features in the back seat. I'm just happy I don't have to worry about submarines, like I do when I'm driving my Dodge.

The perfect car for the family of 5!

I couldn't figure out the anti-submarine action either. Hmm...

The front of the seat is higher than the back so if you crash you don't slide under the dash. It's an odd thing to mention in a car review, but maybe that's fancy sh!t in India!

OK, I had no idea what it meant...so how many million Indians are gonna figure it out.

Yeah I noted they went on and on and on about the safety features. Must be a big deal...of course if you've ever seen any videos of the traffic over there, then I'm sure it's well warranted! Kinda like driving in Mexico...I was told street signs & stop lights were "merely a suggestion."

Pretty intelligent of them Indians thinking about popping the doors open when in an accident. GM has had it all wrong all these years until now. They always used double safety locks so that they wouldn't. The rational was that it is better to stay inside of the car rather than get flung from it. Nothing like the Indian type safety of flying from an open door when in an accident so as to avoid the impact. The idea of collapsible pedals is a neat safety addition also. When you panic stop, the pedals will go to the floor to prevent injury.

Sounds like an identity crisis to me. A Saturn badged as an Opel with the Chevy name tossed in front.

With some of the cars and buses they drive over there and roads with no guard rails or safety features. Your best opportunity to survive is to bailout.

Maybe the carpets in the car are the Flying Carpet variety, in which the doors popping open are needed for deployment and access from the backseat.
