Competition for Sky/Solstice

Hey guys. im back again for a quick post on some new competition arising in the east. GM best prepare themselves. Auto giant HONDA is ready to step into the small convertible market with a new version of the s600 (not s2000). check out www.thehollywoodextra.blogspot.com for an exclusive image of it (yellow convertible). Insider information suggests that it will be a competitive little car with a small but powerful advanced vtec engine and a price well under the competition (priced around the miata but not as high as the sol/sky). Things look to be heating up with this new convertible possible entering the market within a year (exclusive news from your's truly). With the possibility of a new dodge convertible entering this market segment also, i wonder if the success of the sky/sol will continue?

things to consider:

-Its a honda!
-honda reliability
-flashy yet not to extreme look
-competitive price (remember, honda cannot price it to high [exceeding 20k-27/28k max] bc they are already planning a successor for the s2000 [s2k price began around 31, climbed to about 34])
-did i mention its a honda?

It's ok. But i like the design of the sky a lot better. I'm not particular towards honda either. It is interesting to see all the investment in these types of cars though.

I think I like the Dodge more--Never was a fan of hondas. But I'm not gonna knock them, the Japanese do build quality stuff, in spite of what we may wish or want, that is the perception from consumers, which is what matters. Everybody (all manufacturers) are seeing the demand for these 2 seat roadsters soar, its 2 bad GM hasn't the capacity to meet the demand for the SOL & Sky. Over time, as the competition heats up we will see the huge demand for these sexy 2-seaters taper off, of course they will start to build variations of them. Eventually, the supply will meet the demand, and the demand for our cars (sky & sol) will dry up, and you will actually be able to go & buy one at MSRP, off the Lot, cause they will have them on the lot--- .

i hope so. dont get me wrong. i love honda, and i also am in love with the sky, but......gm has gone bonkers!!! personally, the sky was a great car when it was priced around 23ish. what a steal. now that it has gone up to 25-28k for the base? i mean, come on.....and the RL at 29+???? i think they are way overpriced now. saturn is supposed to be the cheap, reliable brand.....i think for this price the car should have a power top (preferably hard) and come with a hyundai sized warranty. so i would have more confidence in it. the miata is cheaper!!!

I never saw the price @ 23K, (but I beleive ya, perhaps in concept form?), but I did buy mine loaded with what I wanted for $25,550ish. To me that was a bargain!! For the hottest sexiest 2-seat roadster?, thats if you can find one!! Interesting that you mention the miata LOL. Yesterday leaving the grocery store one pulled up with that hideous sky blue (i think) color and pulled into the spot next to my MidnightBlue Sky--Why they wanted to be embarassed is beyond my understanding, but I had a real close look side by side--there is NO CONTEST!!! When the old man & his young friend exited the miata, they did not even say howdy--BUT you could see them eye-balling my just detailed MB Sky---oh- yea---they in no way were gonna acknowledge me ---LOL---Want a miata get one, but ho=hum ---you will fall asleep driving it, (and definitely parking it next to my HOT Sky) and people will not be taking pictures of you in your miata, but they will be if your tooling around in your sky, yep with these cell phones, cameras, u name it---

Now back to your normally boring maita picture----

Went to the Doctors office Sunday and there was about ten people in there. I told the desk clerk I was there to get my bloodwork done and then sat down. No outside light showing so I opened the blinds. Sat down and all of a sudden " Hey mister is that your car?" . Being as it was directed to me I said yes it was and then the Q and A started. The people came out of the back from paying thier bill and saw it too. Questions and more Questions..They called me to the back to pull my blood and it happened all over again when I came back out.. Now Huntsville is only 230,000 people and there are only 30 or so Skys sold but believe it or not I have yet to see another Sky just in Huntsville much less on the road....Skip...superstar redneck

sorry for the confusion. im just stirring up an interesting conversation about some new competition. I am not expecting anyone on the forum to like honda or the concept convertible. this is for pete's sake, a GM saturn sky forum. if i wanted a positive reaction, i would of posted it on a honda forum where people would be drooling like dogs.

just to inform you, when i was heavily considering the sky last year, 23,115. That was when i had a deposit on it but backed out because i became undecided with what i wanted to buy. at that price, the sky is more appealing, to me at least. now with a price of 25,325, well you can go figure. Personally, i just think it is in poor taste for any car manufacturer
to raise the price as soon as they see the car is doing well. especially when your GM and you were in a huge panic situation last year.......

It also looks like a Ford Thunderbird.
Park my Red Line next to that Honda and watch from a park bench which one draws the most attention. I drive mine like I stole it and put six thousand miles on it in about three an a half months with no problems!

For the record, the very LAST thing that I want to see on a SKY is a power hard top. It would add weight, add complexity, add expense and totally change the character of the car.

I like it just the way it is...

Sounds like your posting is more of a personnel issue with GM rather than what the competition is doing. Go right ahead an buy it, I will keep smiling driving my SKY with no regrets at all.
