DAMN!!!!
GM performance could make these for less than what it cost to make a Z06, and sell it for three times as much.

I have NO idea where they got those numbers from cause the 2.4L is 2965lbs and the RLs are 3036lbs. The V8 conversions don't add a ton of weight but I think I have heard around 300lbs.

Was that on a scale? I've been curious myself since so many different sources say so many different numbers. I think I'll weigh it in this weekend at Raceway Park.

If you read Hot Rod, which I do, you would have noticed that they used a ton of custom carbon fiber parts. If I remember right almost the whole body is made of carbon fiber. That why it weighs less. Gary

When you consider that the opel and daewoo models are merely rebadged saturns, there could be three more cars comming to get a total of 5. Maybe the coupes would be different models. I doubt the nomad will come, as the HHR has probably filled that niche.

Thats a rip. You can get a Mallett LS-7 conversion for 53K and that includes a 6-speed transmission with custom drive and half shafts.

The Mallett conversion that costs $53k is the LS2 based version (400HP) the LS7 (505HP) based conversion is ~$75k. The crate motor alone costs $15k compared to a LS2 which is like $4k.

Not going to happen

Chevy once tried to update the technology in the Vette to a dual over head cam motor (ZR-1) and heard nothing but outrage from the Corvette Club. They simply won't allow anything but old tech or "traditional" Vette features. My uncle owns 3 Vettes and he told me you can count on a few things in every Vette: push-rod V8, round tail lights, and leaf spring suspension.

As much as I'd like to see the Vette have 2007 technology in it, like dual overhead cam motors, double wish bone suspension, variable valve timing, all wheel drive, turbo, direct injection, etc it wouldn't fly, its too expensive to build a car like that, GM would rather make it affordable and employ gimicks like "skip shift" to help it get 2007 gas milage.

Ummm... the suspension in the Corvette IS a double wishbone fully independent suspension. Looks a helluva lot like a Solstice or S2000...

Well - they aren't 'leaf' springs, but they are composite 'analoges' of a leaf spring. You certainly don't have coil springs in your 'Vette...

This is the LS7 package from the Mallett website.

LOL.........maybe you ought to research that. Vettes were born with 6 cylinders.

I think a turboed V6 would be nice. Although, a small displacement turbo V8 would be even better. As long as it has over 400hp and gets at least 1g on the skidpad, then I think it'll be a winner. Oh, and a 1/4 of about 12 sec. of course.

This is off topic, but I have a Z06 and it has leaf springs (transverse-front and rear). Did I get ripped off?

This is speculation..but when the SKY gets transferred to the Corvette Plant...transference neurosis will happen. It always does...u will begin to see parts and IDEAS come to fruition.
