Corvette Sky Coming! [probable rumor]
![]() Earlier this year, Motor Trend reported on a new V6-powered Corvette it dubbed the Sting Ray, which was reportedly in deep cover. Powered by a version of the Impala's 3.9-liter V6, the Kappa-platform roadster in development was reported to be Chevy's own version of the Saturn Sky / Pontiac Solstice. Now, dealer Rick "Corvette" Conti says the V6 'Vette is closer than we think, but won't be named "Sting Ray."I hear the car is to be a 6 speed auto with $$$ tag of $29,900 - out sometime in 2008...more soon and who knows what Detroit Auto Show will bring us in January... http://www.jalopnik.com/cars/gossip/...tte-207918.php Last edited by wt2ga : 10-17-2006 at 09:30 AM. |

It will never Happen.
The stingray will be Faster than the Z06. ![]() From afar this Vette would appear to be just another Z06. Now rub your eyes and take a closer look, because these are the first spy shots of the highly anticipated, but yet unnamed super Corvette. The large hood bulge you see is rumored to be concealing a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8, and packing upwards of 650 horsepower. This engine will likely use an integrated intake-manifold intercooler and should sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.4 seconds. And, with the addition of more carbon fiber in the body and expanded use of polycarbonates, this super Vette could weigh less than the current Z06. GM’s Performance Center in Wixom, Michigan will likely produce the powerplant, but expect only about 1500–2000 copies annually. Initially called the Blue Devil, there has been much speculation in the past several months about the name for this super Z06. Recently we hear that GM has scrapped the Blue Devil name in favor of Corvette SS (we hope not), Z07, or even reviving the Stingray nameplate. Whatever the name may be, expect this beast to carry a sticker around the $100,000 mark, which is by far the cheapest way to get 650 hp in a production car

I feel that two Kappa cars is enough for GM (well in the US at least - 4 total I suppose if you count the Daewoo and Opel)
Though it would be nice to share the lineage with the Corvette, I think we stole enough lines from the original Sting Ray to not give any back.

Well, we still can have a Kappa just as fast as that Super Vette like this one Hot Rod Mag Made:
Check out the LS7 Solstice with 600 hp that goes 0-60 in 3.3 seconds, blazes through a slalom at 75 mph, brakes from 60-0 in 95 feet, AND does 10.9 in the 1/4 mile..." And still 2880 lbs and 52/48 front-to-rear weight distribution. No Trunk Space, but Who Cares: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 2880 lbs http://www.hotrod.com/projectbuild/h...ice_road_test/ |

GM indicated 5 Kappa cars when they changed the Wilmington Plant to Kappa
Quote:
![]() Brothers and Sisters, Chairman Gagnon, President Myers, and Boxwood Rd. plant manager Dennis Dougherty announced that the General Motors, Boxwood Rd. facility has been approved by the General Motors Board of Directors to build the all new Saturn 2 seater. The Saturn 2 seater will be built in conjunction with the Pontiac Solstice. The Saturn 2 seater is the second of an estimated 5 cars that could be built on the "KAPA" platform. Production is scheduled to begin for the Saturn 2 seater model year 2006. General motors management also announced that production of the Saturn L series mid size car that is presently built at the Wilmington facility will stop in the mid June to July 2, 2004 time frame. Okay folks, as someone who has owned a Vette for 14 years and recently picked up a second one, I can tell you I have been watching the Corvette forums and magazines. Cheverolet has said it will not build a "baby Vette" as they are interested in being America's Sportscar. And by that, they mean high performance. They are not going to make a V6 "entry level", nor smaller bodied Vette. Chevy's entry level sportscar was and will soon be again the Camaro.
