New top

Hello everyone, I changed the color of my top from tan to blue. Bold move but overall happy with it!

There were only 2 blue tops produced by Saturn...one Sky with a blue top went to a GM exec and one top was sold by Source One to an unknown. Was this a purchase or dyed? Many on this forum would like to know.

By the way, U chose wisely.

If this was a purchase...it had to be one of the two....where did u see it...and how much did it cost, without installation. The second blue top went to auction by Source One. It went off at one thousand dollars. You are sitting on, rather driving a very sought after piece of material

I had it changed from the tan to this blue. I always thought this color top would look better in my opinion.

No, I took it to an upholstery shop owned by a gentleman who worked for Saturn and was familiar with their tops. He had a 2008 top there so it was sent out and duplicated with the fabric and color, used on German convertibles, chosen by me.

Nice work myboyblue! (You're my boy BLUE!) That is one of the nicest looking bluestones I've seen with that color top on it. Sharp!

Would be great to have a top resource like that as our cars get older. Did he create a template to duplicate these in the future? (PLEASESAYYESPLEASESAYYESPLEASESAYYES)

I don't know for sure. I was fortunate he had a sky top there otherwise I would've had to send my top and been without a top for 3 weeks.

Is it possible that it was dyed your original top? Or is it a NEW top? Hey Robo! I would put a silver on mine.

Looks good. Few questions I have.

Was this just for the look color wise... or was your original top bad? Ripped or torn or faded or other problems, like did they also replace any gaskets/weather strips in the top itself?

You said they Pollet Upholstery sent it out... to where? What shop/mfg. for this process? Local or other?

Time involved? For removal and reinstall? From the time you brought it in, to the time when you got it back?

Overall cost? One bill or was it two separate bills, one for the dye an cut of fabric from the " other " place, plus the local guy to reinstall?

This is good info, as our tops are getting up there in age, aren't we all... I know the cost of a new top for the replacement of mine, I was wondering about the time involved for the replacement, and the cost for this process? I am not looking to dye my top, just wondering how good was this shop's work? What warranty on their work, incase it goes bad, or there is a problem later... it leaks or won't close right?

A former guy who worked for Saturn... familiar with their tops.... someone I and other owners local here in the area might want to talk to soon, I could use a new top on my Kappa.

Your Kappa is now unique in it's look and among our community of tan/black tops. Well done.

Good to know that a great looking, quality top can be had/made by aftermarket sources....

First thank you all for the compliments. Mr. Pollets top was used as a template because the only colors available, as you all know, was black and tan. My top was old and coming apart at the edges so I shopped around and he had the best price. I paid close to $2000 only because I chose a top quality material and color. Every shop and online retailer needed my old top for a template since they don't make our cars anymore. The top took about 3 1/2 weeks to come in and the install was three days. I don't remember the place in Ca. where it was made but I'm sure he could tell you all, he's a very nice guy. Since he was familiar with our brand the top was removed, serviced and operates just as before.

Very nice! LOVE the color match - that really boosts the overall color of the car!
