The 5.3 small block they plan to use, or 327 as It was called way back when, was my favorite. Add a cam and Tri-Power and It would be a great engine to bring back. I had one with a four barrel in a truck back in the sixties and loved it.

The Kappa platform on which the Sol and Sky are built was designed first as a drop-top platform and retrofit for the Sol coupe, so I wouldn't see this, should it come to pass, as the reanimation of our cars. And while new Corvettes are expensive, used Corvettes are not, and the last thing that brand needs is more watering down; whenever I've considered one, their relative proliferation has been a negative.

Chevrolet have never allowed a 'junior' Corvette to be produced. They vetoed the idea of a factory turbo Fiero that would have equalled Corvette performance for a lower price when they saw the prototypes.

It may be that the prices of the Corvette is high enought that they would relent and consider a lower priced sports car, but it would surprise me.

Chevy wasn't too happy with GM importing the OPEL GT back in the '70's
and selling them at Buick dealerships throughout the US.

For the past decade (probably more), GM has always had a wide variety of trims, options within, special editions, and evolutions.

Bottom Line: GM already has an ENTRY LEVEL C7. It's the LT1 with no options.

That said, it only makes sense for someone within the GM management chain to ask the question: "How far can we push the price point back"? Several of the standard features on the current "entry level" C7 could be made into options. So it might be possible to trim the trim and get a lower cost "entry level" C7.

But we're only talking a few thousand here. From the low 50s to the high 40s. And at this point it's probably just talk. Strategy.

I agree with those that claim it will water down the brand and that a budget Corvette would be a bad move. Unless it's a different car... Wasn't the KappaII going to be built in Bowling Green before all hell broke loose in 2009?

Yep...

Prior to GMs bankruptcy in 2009, the automaker was planning on shifting production of the kappa-based Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky to Bowling Green in 2012, but the elimination of Pontiac and Saturn brands from General Motors effectively nixed that plan.
