Sky is for women

Recent Forbes Article. It's official, the SKY is for women

Best Car For 45-year-old, Single Women: Saturn Sky Convertible

Base price: $24,195

The Sky is a sexy yet affordable convertible that has become one of the hottest new American cars. So far this year, 55% of its American registrants have been women. Trust us, the Sky gets plenty of stares on the street--even when men drive it. You could spend tens of thousands of dollars more for a Mercedes or BMW, but the Sky will get you the same thing: attention.

Not trying to start a war here.
I found this to be an interesting statistic.

First of all early marketing reports indicated that the Solstice was designed to attract women and the Sky was aimed at the men. This info was relayed to me by my dealer after he attended a GM sales conference.
Secondly, if 55% are registered to women, how many women are driving a Sky that is registered in their husbands name?

I bought my Sky for my wife to go to work in, it IS registered to me, so the numbers are already skewed--

That really is an interesting statistic since I would have thought the majority of the early adopters would have been men, stereotypically gear head sorts that care about tech. I think that trend is going to get even more lopsided in the future.

What about the Sol

Women Have Eyes For Big, Sexy Wheels

UPDATED: 10:44 pm EDT July 2, 2006

CLEVELAND -- The options seem endless when it comes to buying a car or truck, and women are certainly taking advantage of all of the choices.

5 On Your Side consumer specialist Angie Lau hit showrooms across northeast Ohio to see which cars are sizzling this summer.

In most cases, women want the the same things as men when it comes to what they drive: roomy and powerful.

In fact, CNW Research reports that a growing number of women enjoy the space of the Chevrolet Tahoe and the rugged flexibility of the hard top Jeep Wrangler, Lau reported.

When it comes to luxury, the ladies are looking at the top of the line. The Lexus lS430 comes complete with state-of-the-art safety technology and high-end style.

"It's the refined ride. It's the smoothest, quietest vehicle out there, bar none. And it's another reason why many of our consumers have found it so immensely pleasurable to own," said Dan Pyle with Metro Lexus.

Pyle said the attraction to the lS430 doesn't stop on the showroom floor.

"If a customer wanted to have the oil changed, we go out to them, drop off a loan car, pick up their car, bring it in, change the oil, wash the car for them and bring it back to them," Pyle said.

Two popular Cadillacs, the CTS and DTS, are also catching the eye of more women. Lau said 45 percent of the people who buy the DTS are women.

Check the roads and you'll likely see a woman behind the wheel of a pick-up truck like the Chevrolet Silverado, Lau reported.

The Honda Civic is also stylish and affordable, but Lau said the No. 1 hottest selling car for women is the Pontiac Solstice.

"It appeals to women because it's got big, sexy wheels. It's got a great appearance to it. It's got a 177-horsepower engine. It's great on gas. It's easy to drive and both available in automatic and in a stick shift," said Hally Flauto with Jay Pontiac.

The Solstice is not only easy on the eye, it's easy on the wallet. It costs just over $20,000.

For many women, it's love at first sight.

"Their first impression is, Wow. That is so adorable. I have to have one. I have to have a Solstice," Flauto said.

Maybe not...

For this very reason I started the following poll.

There is another poll out there indicating the composition of the forum members. When you consult both a different view is presented - judge for yourself.

I wonder if that it a bogus statistic. Don't you think that a lot of cars would be registered in two names for the marrieds? The statistic implies that if 55% are registered to women, then 45% are registered to men AND couples. Does that make any sense at all?

Or, do you think the statisticians lumped the "both" category into the "women" category, since indeed those cars were registered to women. In that case, the car could be 40% couples (counted as women), 15% women (counted as women) and 45% men (not counted as women.)

Never trust a summary statistic line without seeing the raw data... Not that there is anything wrong with women owning the SKY - it's just that writers today have a story that they want to sell, and then manipulate a statistic to fit their storyline.

Then:"SPIRIT" Black Onyx Red Line 25 Oct 06

Well I guess if you want women to look at you, drive a car they like to look at. Dispite the stats I must say I thought it was a car for older men as well.
