Bowling Green - Corvette & XLR factory
Just wanted to share with everyone my visit to the Bowling Green, KY plant today. I was very excited to go as you may have heard the new Z06 has started it's pre-production run at the plant. I'm here to say, it most certainly has! I was able to see 3 Z06's going around the production line today; silver, red, and yellow. The best part was at the end of the line they had 2 Z06's pull off to the side where they troubleshoot issues. One was burnt orange and the other, my favorite, was black on black. The black looks so good on the Z06! They had the hood up and I could see that great LS7 engine in there. What a sight, seeing the new Z06 in person. The rear tires are so wide that a black molding piece is attached to the rear wheel well to keep the tire from sticking out at the bottom. And yes, the little GM emblem is being placed on these '06 models as well, just under the rear air duct in front of the rear wheels.
The workers are having a lot of fun with these. As we were walking down the line one of the workers would point to a Z06 on the line and give us the thumbs up! The car is so much better looking than the standard Corvette, and for under $70k nicely equiped its a hot rod bargin. If you have a chance get to the factory and take a tour to see them in person; its worth the $5 charge. Be quick, the plant closes for a summer break in July and the regular production runs will begin shortly after the break.
