Any Experience With Rear Wind Screen Turbulence Reducer

Hi Everyone,

Early next year, we will be picking up our first Sky, a 2007 base model (navy blue/black leather int) with a manual transmission. It is fully optioned around those declarations. The car currently has 8700 miles. By the time we drive it home, it will exceed 9000 miles.

I bought a new plain clear rear windscreen. You can see it by CLICKING HERE. The seller claims it is the "Saturn Approved" version that were a dealer-installed option on new Skys. It mounts directly behind the seats using a special Velcro. It is made of 1/4" plexi-glass.

There is also a lower priced wind screen available that is 1/8" thick (half the thickness) and mounts between the trunk lid and the silver painted curvy part....whatever that thing is called. I decided to pay double the price for the Saturn-Approved version.

I seek input from anyone here with either type. Does it do a good job eliminating turbulence and wind noise? Does it add to, or take from the general look? Does it interfere in any manner with getting the top up or down? Any down-side to having the windscreen version you have?

My wife and I are excited to bring our Sky home. It gives us something to look forward to after the holidays have past.

My friend had one, but in certain situations with the windows down it increased the wind.

Top down = windows down for me, so the above information was the reason for me not to get one of those turbulence reducers.

The engraved / lighted WindRestrictor looks mighty cool though and reviews are very very positive though https://windrestrictor.com/

I will second the comment that the windows have to be up for any of these devices to reduce turbulence. I also will not drive with the windows up if the top is down, so I get no benefit from one.

I don't understand the "Saturn Approved" or GM Licensed statements since, as far as I know, GM had nothing to do with any of the stick-on wind deflectors. The GM version required that brackets be mounted to the top of the tulip panel (the silver painted curvy part) and are referred to as "fly swatters". I'm sure that a dealer somewhere installed one of these, but I don't think it was very common.

All that said, the one you picked is the better of the two options in my opinion, since the one that goes into the trunk can require adjustment to the trunk lid.

The GM fly swatter is fugly.

Windrestrictor has some really awesome options that integrate way better with the car and they do work.

The flyswatter is okay in that you can have the top up and get protection from headlights.

I like how the Opel-GT windscreen looks.

The plexiglass windscreens look cheap. I purchased on and tossed it.

I have the Windrestrictor V2. It's been on my SKY for 9 years. It reduces, but doesn't eliminate the wind. I'm happy with it.

I like the look of having one on the car and it does help a little. When you will notice the most difference is when you have the windows up. I am not a fan of any of the plastic ones, I wanted glass. I made a template out of cardboard, took it to a glass shop and for under $50 he cut one out of laminated glass. It looks like it belongs on the car. Mounted inside and never interferes with anything. You will get a reflection off of them that can be changed if you tilt it but I got used to that fast. It should last as long as the car and will never scratch. I put vinyl on it to look like etched glass and even put red led lights under it. I will post pics. Actually I took it off and had it trimmed down so it’s flatter. It makes the car look lower and wider and looks better in my opinion.

@rjgramps, I just purchased a wind deflector from Windrestrictor. It appears that you purchased the windrestrictor model via eBay. I am surprised that you did not see the following post on this forum: https://www.skyroadster.com/forums/f...ld-wide-96513/. Windrestrictor sells direct and has a sale for 15% off and free shipping.

Most of us did not purchase the WindRestrictor for wind. It was purchased as an additional mod. That is why we had it etched to our liking....and it looks great lit up in the evening....especially during braking. Stop thinking it's about WIND.

If u did not want wind....do not purchase a convertible.

I like wind, but my wife objects to it - especially in bed.
