Appropriate Conduct On

Lately it has seemed as if the overall conduct on has been in a downward spiral. Recently we have had a number of threads begin to degenerate into flame wars.

Most recently, we had a thread where one of our Administrators decided to "ban himself", because he felt he started a flame war thread. Although he may have said things that could have been taken as inflamatory, a number of members also took it personal, and really overreacted to the situation making the thread far, far worse that it should have ever been.

Now just yesterday, we had a thread about truck tires degenerate in the same way. People starting to take it personal, make personal attacks, members goading other members on for the sole purpose of trying to make them angry, making thinly veiled personal attacks, and on and on. There have been other situations of members blatantly defying the Moderators and the rules.

Overall, I think it makes the environment on this forum a very bad one for a forum. New members do not feel welcome. Long term members feel defensive because of the constant attacks. Other members jump off the handle at anything they feel could be a slight against them or the Saturn Sky because of some apparent chip on their shoulder. The overall attitude on this forum is filled with tension.

The forum cannot continue like this and become a helpful and prosperous forum for Sky owners.

Therefore, adverse action will start to be taken against members who break the rules. Such could be nothing more than a warning through Private Message, to a temporary ban for a set period of time (generally 3 days, but it is dependent on number of offenses, history of the offender, etc), and all the way to a permanent ban from the site.

The mod team is reviewing many of the posts recently made in these threads, and has already acted on instituting temporary bans and PM's. If you are one of those banned and are reading this, please take the "time out" to review the forum rules, and consider how they apply to your conduct. You are certainly welcomed back at the end of the time out period, but please, lets keep things civil and respectful when you return.

So I want everyone on the forum to be ware that stepping beyond the rules could end up in consequences that you may not like to happen to you.

Keep in mind that the mod team believes in a fairly hands off approach to forum moderation. We also prefer to not have to be heavy handed, and come down on people. We are all adults, appreciate being treated like adults, and deserve to be treated like adults. However, we must act like adults to expect to be treated like adults.

So I ask everyone for their understanding and cooperation in following the forum rules. They can be reviewed here:

However, they are also fairly simple to follow. Essentially, always show people respect in your posts. If you disagree with them, argue the topic, and do not make it personal. Always keep a thick skin too. People often take things personal in heated debate that were not intended to be so.

If you think someone is purposely harassing you, attacking you, or otherwise violating the rules, you can use the report a post feature to alert the mods, or send us a PM directly. You should NOT respond with a personal attack back, or otherwise continue posting in a string of posts that are degenerating a thread into a flame war. That only makes it worse.

To our long time, and high post count members: You are the veterans and leaders on this forum, and the people the new members will look up to for help and information. In a way, you are like role models. Please keep that in mind because you do lead by example, and your opinions and commments carry weight.

Again, thanks for your understanding and cooperation in making the premier internet community for the Saturn Sky!

Re-registering under a new name for ANY reason is grounds for a permanent ban. Also, in the sign up agreement agreed to when everyone registered, it is also grounds for legal action. So PLEASE, do not re-register. Just wait out your stay. Temp bans will be earned from between 1 to 3 days.

Just wanted to bump this as a reminder for everyone to keep things civil and respectful. I saw another thread today that had started to break down into namecalling and was probably nearing flame war status. I thank those that used the report a post feature to report it to the mod team, and the mod team has taken action with the offending member(s).
