Courtesy lights continue to glow.

I installed a rear view mirror with backup camera and camera in the grill. I took out the ON Star mirror. In an effort to have courtesy lights I installed LED strip lights on the bottom of the camera mirror. I tapped them into the gray courtesy light wire for ground and the Dk Blue/White for power in the connector that went to the On Star mirror. When I open the door the lights glow nice and bright but when they timeout they still glow dim. With them glowing all of the time I am concerned of battery drain. Does anyone have a better way of tying these lights to door switch to have reliable courtesy lights?

Make it a good day.

Were you able to locate strip lights? I am wanting to stick strip lights about 2-3 inches long on the bottom of there rearview mirror.

Make it a good day.

I was looking for direct replacement only so did not look at strip lights. Maybe you could try adding a resistor?

I, with help found a way to have courtesy lights that do not glow after removing OnStar rear view mirror. Basically use the door ajar circuits, they are normally open switches. Those wires are in the drivers door connector 500 terminal K GY/BK and in the passenger door connector 600 terminal N TN/WHT may be pink. The lights come on when the either or both doors are open but they do go out when the doors are closed. They do not time out or dim out or they do not turn on with the keyless remote. So as with most modifications there are trade offs. I installed 4-2 1/2 inch led light strips, 2 in the foot wells and 2 on the bottom of the rearview mirror.

Make it a good day.
