Frankenstein’s Monster has an Article

Here is an article on that Frankenstein’s Monster that even Mary Shelly wouldn’t want to write about...

I don't understand why people try to pretend a car is another brand. If anything I will debadge a car to add some mystery.
I always loved it when I told people Lucy was a Saturn

'People' aren't particularly bright about what cars might be (or anything else, in a lot of cases). I've had many people come up to me at car shows to ask what my car is (the two most common because they are the least well known are TVR and Jensen) and when I tell them it is a TVR (or Jensen as the case may be) they continue with "Who makes it?"

I tell them TVR (or Jensen) but am always fighting an almost irresistible urge to preface that by "Well duh!"....

I'll bet that many people seeing that rolling abortion of a Saturn will honestly think it is a Ferrari.

I drove a Fiero for 20 years and when I was at an all makes cars show with one of my British cars a guy went by, commented on my car, and I asked him what he had brought and he responded 'a Countach' As I owned an even older Lamborghini at the time I asked him to show it to me. When we got there, I just turned and walked away. The Fiero seats and interior were a pretty good indication that his Countach wasn't real.... but he certainly seemed to think of it as a real Lambo and I bet the seller of the yellow abortion probably refers to it as his Ferrari....

At least the "Countach" had been re-bodied. This Sky has simply been badged, with most of the Saturn logos still in place, even.

That's true, and the body kit was pretty well done and the windshield was an original factory Countach part (which was worth more then the whole Fiero and probably limited sales of the kit).

The ferrari badges on that thing remind me of the BMW 'M' phenomenon - 'M' badges seem to appear on anything, even the European diesel cars, in the hands of wannabe owners.

Even BMW is putting the M badge on anything & everything now, vastly diluting the "cachet" (if you're in to that kind of thing).

Owner of "Campbelle", a Brazen 2008 GXP ... with mods piling up...

And Fiat calls a Miata a 124. Makes quite a bit of financial sense to utilize a common chassis and/or driveline. My wife's Mazda 3 came in Volvo and Ford flavours using the same basic platform.

BTW, on the BMW/Toyota twins, I like the BMW styling far more. The Toyota looks like a Japanese manga cartoonist had a hard night, drank too much and got up the next morning and slapped that design on his drawing board.

I agree on about 98% of that. Kind of hard to argue against it after owning a Kappa.
LOL
But rebadging a car and calling it a Supra doesn't sit well with me. I loved the original Supra's and I just can't get on board with a different body on a Z4ish. And IMHO, it is fugly.

Other than that, yea, it works out real well with these common chassis vehicles and then the customer gets to buy the one that appeals the most to them from pretty much just a visual point of view.
