Fuel gauge screwed up

Last week my fuel gauge started showing a quarter tank when I had almost half. A few miles later it showed empty and the fuel light came on.now it usually shows empty or a little above. Any ideas?

Saturated float? Perhaps disconnected,...?

The GM in tank fittings have a known issue with corousion and build up of deposits due to the current gas formulation. That is whey GM recommends that you put their fuel system protectant into the tank twice a year.

My first guess is that your float is gunked up and you need to run a tank thorugh the car with the additive included.

There are several posts on this subject on the Solstice forum.

I would not be taking the tank apart till I cleaned it up chemically first.

Don't want to frighten you on the GM gas treatment...but it is over 20 dollars a plastic bottle.

Just use the Chevron stuff. Basically the same and a lot cheaper.

How about if you just use chevron fuel, walla no more problems... A couple of 3 tanks of the stuff should "blow it out"..

I actually use chevron 95% of the time. I ws running the car in my driveway yesterday, messing with my new radio I installed and it ran out of gas! now I'm confused because I have barely driven it since putting half a tank in it. No gas smell or dead grass in the yard.just went and got 5 gallons of gas and about to put it in and reset the mileage and reassess this situation..... And I added some lucas to the jug.

Long term update - my family has 3 saturns, my parents aura also had a fuel gauge problem. The 04 Ion started throwing CEL's ( P0140 ) mostly when the tank was low. My sky's guage started acting up after a couple tanks of WAWA gas.
Took the hit and bought the GM additives, and have only been using brand name gas mostly ( BP and Sunoco )- 87 octane. Have not had a single problem since, it has been well over a year...

I had similar issues for over two years with my '09 Redline. Tried everything including new gas cap, new ECM, fuel pump pressure sensor. Replaced connector that service tech thought was cause of the problem. That didn't work. Finally solved the problem by wiring over the faulty electrical connector. 5,000 miles later and no more problems.

C9,
Which connection did you rewire?
And was it easy to get to?
Thanks,

My steering wheel control box that i installed with the radio has been giving fits, i think that may have been the problem. I put a jug of gas in yesterday and the gauge worked fine. Took it and got the oil changed. My mpg showed about 15 till i reset it. Avg speed showed 20... Lol crutchfield is sending me a new box. I think that is what is confusing my car

According to tech write-up he found two loose terminals in X 2 connector at ECM and bad wiring or connectors at X100 connector. He replaced terminals 9 and 15 in X 2 connector of ECM. He cut and jumped terminals C1 and B12 of X100 connector.
