Sky's are horrible cars

I mean, really 2 seats, roofs that leak and barely work - you have to do multiple trips in and out of the car to put the top up or down. The water pumps fail all the time. Its showing in there market value, they cant keep it. Each year they get cheaper and cheaper. Hell these things are so bad some folks mock them by putting numbers on the side and white wall tires.

They should all be turned in and scrapped. What POS.

So true! But I am a glutton for punishment, so if anyone wants to give me theirs I'll sacrifice and take it.

Sky's are horrible cars

What else would you buy for letís say in the $12,000 range, same vintage year even up until now in a 2 seater convertible.

My .02 is that itís a great little car for the money. JMO

Side note based on rojan35ís post, itís great for a fair weather car, and thats how I am viewing it as well. Not viewing it as a daily driver although it was up until a couple of months ago.

If you are using as your main car or daily driver it is not in the least bit practical. I have a C400, a Honda Ridgeline and the Sky. They all serve different purposes. The Sky is the fair weather, car shows, weekend toy. For that purpose it is perfect - low cost/maintenance, looks good, fun to drive for short trips. You have to have realistic expectations of what it is and can do.

Davham is a GM engineer, he always knows what he is talking about. I have offered to pick up his gawd awful Hydro Blue Redline, and will pay the refuse charge to get it. What day should I be there to pick that thing up? I have a set of wide white walls to put on it. I guess you can be lucky about some things.

Yeah a lot of people don't like GM and they'd be harsh like you are - just because for them it feels good let out steam.

The Saturn Sky is not for everyone.

If you want a convenient convertible top - it's not the car for you.

If you want a low-cost low-maintenance vehicle - you'd be better off with a Toyota.

If you're 6'5" it's not the car for you.

If you don't own a second car - it's not the car for you.

I've owned my car for 2 years - haven't had an issue with the water pump.

I've had other maintenance stuff come up though. Nothing major.

Carguru has the resale of the Sky holding about steady for the last 2 years. Down 3%.

Resale values for The Sky are holding up better than other 3rd gen Saturns such as the Aura.

(If you don't mind driving a WHITE SATURN AURA XE there are some hella deals out there!!!)

Resales values are only important if you're selling your car or if you're using the car as a sort of investment.

Resale values aren't important at all if you plan on keeping the car.

Lower prices do pose a dilemma for fans though... How low does the redline resale value have to go before motivating Base owners to upgrade? 6.5K is pretty close.

On ebay prices are consistently staying at about 10K.

I like my car. I'd recommend The Sky to anyone who has a 30 mile daily commute and wants something that bullies and zips through traffic.

Emmett,

This is an on going joke. I think response to post something bad by MM. These two get after each other and it used to be really rough. I think they have become friends over the years. Davhamm shopped for his car for many years as I remember it.

You just got caught in their running joke.

There are lots of cars that are good competition for the Kappas, but due to the latter's fast depreciation, most of the alternatives cost way more now - up to double for the S2000 for instance.

Its like modern Jags - after sale they plummet in value and while they become great second hand values, the original owners are less than impressed when they try and sell them.
