Transmission Problem?

Nice 75 degree October day in ol UpState, out for a drive, and pulling into a parking lot the car balked on me a few times as I slowed...like I punched the brakes pedal hard a few times....

At first I thought anti-lock on a wheel but a few more times i seems it is associated with the tranny down shifting,
especially in D.

When in Park and moving into D, it kicks a lot more than usual. It does not do it in any other gear......
I fear for the unknown.....

Sounds like the simple cam actuator/solenoid fix. Many threads on this somewhere (sorry - I didn't keep track as I don't have an auto box)

Googled and found this: https://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/...suckage-65252/

I replaced both Camshaft Position Actuators intake and exhaust with inexpensive ones last spring. I was having no issues at the time, just thinking I would be preemptive in avoiding this issue. Then, a few months after, I started having the hard downshifting problem 3 random times this season. I finally replaced them again with OEM parts from GM, and have had no further issues. Just a heads up that spending a little more might be worth it.

I had one of these go bad (12655420) at this same time last year on my way out to Ithaca (conference @ Cornell) in my 2.4L. Easy to replace.

Anyone with a quick camera shot and photo shop arrows with where the intake and exhaust actuators are on the engine?

Got this picture off of another post about this problem, and highlighted the location in the yellow circle, they are marked in the casting for intake and exhaust, just take the plastic engine cover off the top, 10 minute job at the most.

THANKS Bergum, A picture is worth a thousand words.

I have the Actuators arriving Friday. I'll do an air filter as well just to be complete

those little grey clips can be a bit finicky but the job is very easy to do. I bought the store brand from Autozone and the first one was bad because it was reading 12.5 ohms so they gave me a new one. it was at 11 ohms and worked fine. The advantage to going with the Autozone store part is that it has a lifetime replacement warranty. With this part it is so easy to get to and replace might as well go with their part.

I stock them. I get them from amazon and have had no issues with the three sets we have used.

I'm in the Glens Falls area way to the east. I bought my SKY in April '06 (#785).

This may help for future questions too...Though weren't as clear as Bergum's post...which looks really familiar. LOL
