I was hoping this wouldn't happen to me, but alas, it has. Two months out of warranty, and I walk outside to see my car in a puddle of its own coolant. At least it lasted 5 years & 55k miles. A day and $913 later, I should have my car back. Luckily, this is an excuse for more motorcycle time.

Noooo, $913 to replace the waterpump? And the wonder why we don't patronize OE dealers? Mine was replaced last month under warranty.

I'm coming up on the 30k mark and have been keeping an eye out...I’m curious, is this happening to the cars that are driven mostly at the nicer time of the year, and sit for long periods of time, or is it happening to Daily Drivers also?

Mine crapped out at 66K and it's a daily driver.

With the water pump being a known issue, and we are all going to pay the piper at sometime, any thoughts on which pump to replace it with? Should we use stock OEM or which aftermarket pump would have the best life expectancy?

I do not know if an non-OEM exists.. I do know however, at least with the R/L's, the part number has changed, which usually means perhaps they improved them, that is still to be determined however...
Not as many were replaced on the NA's, however I did read somewhere (I'm not convinced on this yet, nor proven to me yet) that the WP are identical to both cars...

The reason i ask is checking out rockauto.com they show about six water pumps ranging from 25 to 150 bucks for the pumps. There has to be a quality difference for sure. They list two AC/Delco pumps of course they are the most expensive. But that doesn't ensure the best pump for the job.

IF I had a choice I would go with the AC Delco's since they were the guys making parts for GM for years.. Remember, you get what you pay for, would you gamble & want a chinese water pump in your Sky??
